with all due respect, I rather spend hours and hours driving my 348 that dropping an engine and cleaning it for a concourse trophy! As for the technical. the engine comes out of the sub frame. You have to disconnect everything off the block and then unscrew the main engine frame and rear axle, drop the whole things on blocks and lift the body over the engine. About 40h of work if you are a mechanic and at that point you may as well do our 30K service, new belts, new pullys and tensioners. Maybe a new waterpump, depending on how many miles you have. Way too much if you ask me for a shop. Spray soem WD40 into the engine bay on plastic parts and the headers and whipe them off. Makes it look super nice and shiny. Takes 10 min and you can spend 39h and 50m driving through the british country side. |

This is something that would best be posted in Tech Q&A, but anyways... I'm not sure a ramp-type lift is the best for this. The drivetrain drops out as a sub-frame and this includes the rear wheels. Arnaldo Torres did an engine-out service with his TR - same layout as your 348, so more than likely same procedure. Here are some of the links to his engine-out service: http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/43613.html http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/45099.html |

Does anyone know the correct procedure for removing the engine /transmission unit of a 348? I wish to remove mine in order to clean it thoroughly, and possibly enter next years concours. I have all the tools including a two poster ramp, which I recently had installed in my garage. I also purchased the "official" workshop manual (which is as much use as chocolate teapot!)- tells you nothing). |
