Ken: I know of the car to which you are referring. It is owned by an Orthopedic Surgeon in Ft. Lauderdale. I never saw it in person but my friend Bud Root at Shelton vouched for its excellent condition. I purchased another M with 4,300 miles for 160k. It won Platinum at Cavallino and the 99 FCA meet. I have owned all three of the tr series and the 512 is a big step up from the tr. The M is definitely faster than the 512TR but if you want to drive it alot it will depreciate rapidly I suspect. I would go for the 512TR unless you want to drive it less. Having said that the M is the pinnacle of the line. When I last spoke with the owner in Ft. Lauderdale he was supposedly about to sell it for 162k but I guess that fell through. If you are interested Shelton has a black/tan if they haven't sold it yet which was repainted but supposedly has no structural/frame damage that had been sitting there forever. I suspect they would let it go for 135k. It has the Tubi and recent major service with about 11,500 miles. I drove it...very strong. If you have anymore ?s email me at [email protected]. Mark Moon |

I have owned two early TR's (85 and 91) and now a 512TR. Other than similar looks the 512TR feels like a different car even just driving around town. The interior is much improved along with the mechanicals. They changed 80% of the componentes of the car between a '91 TR and a 512TR! Ferrari applied what they learned with the F-40 on the 512TR. If you are going to drive it 80,000 miles get a 512TR, if you love the TR looks, don't care as much about improved mechanicals and systems, and want to tie up less money get the early TR. The cost difference between a 512TR and a 85-91 TR can be justified due to the numerous changes. The difference between a 512TR and a 512M is tough to swallow unless you really want something different. I personally don't like the looks of a 512M when compared to a 512TR. |

Hello William (and all), I am a driving enthusiast with a love of tinkering and wrenching. I propose my use of this car will be to drive it 1,000. miles a month and to own the car for seven years. At the end of my ownership I predict the 512 will have 80,000 miles, be "rattled proofed", well sorted and probably modifed for driveability (sterio/ header/ brake cooling etc.). After researching, I may join a concensus that a 1992 TR would be a better vehicle for my intended use. Also, am correct that at 60,000 miles the M's engine will need value guides? rings?. What about the live of a TR vs a TR-M engine. Dare I say I do not have deep pockets for extrodinary auto expenses.

Ken it all depends what you want the car for. a Daily driver ? get the 91, an awesome track car ? get the 512TR, or a collector car to appreciate in value ? get the 512M |

$167.9k is over market value. The FML Asking Price Index this week is $152,660, down from $166,000 previously. I'd say it's worth $149k, if all things are equal. This is a soft market for everything except the ultra-exotic. And even though 18 of 75, this isn't an exotic Ferrari.

JRV is correct, but depends on your use of the car. Driving around town and on the tyopical highway trip, an early TR and 512 are no different - on the track definately get the 512. The F512M -- obviously the top of the bunch, but very few have track use etc. More of a collectors car it seems. |

Can't tell you about that particular car, however the 512 TR's & M's are quite a step up & forward from their predecessors imo. Footnote: Not dissin the earlier cars, but in typical Ferrari fashion the newer models surpassed the earlier models by a wide margin. |

Don't have any info on this car Ken, but there is a Physician on Ferrarichat with an F512M and if I remember he is from FL. He might be able to help you or know of the car. Search the archives for F512M. |

Hello all, I been reading the Ferrari Chat site for a few months and just joined/ registered the other day. A F512M production date of 12/94 VIN # 1000540 # 18 of 75 has my interest. The car is said to be a one owner car (a Doctor Terry "some unknown last name" from Florida) and purchased and serviced from Shelton Motors (?). Can any one offer any insite into this particular 512? Additionally, I welcome all comments about a 1994 M and stardard 1992 512 versus purchasing 91 Testarossa. Thank you all in advance. Kenny |
