The Italians really loved Irvine, something about that wildman attitude. They like Schumi cause he wins, but if you look at interviews with the Tifosi over there, almost all of them liked Eddy more when the two were racing together. It makes me wonder, how much of a following does Schumi have? I know it must be great, but I was talking to my cousin (over from Hamburg last week and was staying with us) and he said most of the Germans favor McLaren and Williams because of MB and BMW, the Italians seem to like Schumi simply because he's driving for Ferrari. We need another Villeneuve, and not JV, for Ferrari. That said, I'm obviously glad Schumi drives for the Scuderia and hope he spends a couple more years with them before gracefully bowing out (and then maybe sticking around to keep the place inline with that German efficiency).

I remember seeing an interview with Eddy. He had just got a Lancia Delta and was really throwing it around the italian streets when the blue lights appeared in his rear view mirror. He said he was sh*tting himself when the police tapped on his window; but as soon as they saw who it was in the car they just laughed and said "eeeeeeeeeeeeedie" and wagged their finger. Apparently they had been chasing him for 5 mins and he hadnt noticed. They just let him off

I remember Eddie Irvine saying that when he drove for Ferrari Michael had a pass on his car so he could just drive through at toll booths without stopping whereas Eddie had to pay.
Eddie did also say though that although he'd been stopped a few times by the Police, when they realised who he was they just sent him on his way!

That' an interesting one also. I read in a magazine.
A police officer stops Ayrton Senna while he was speeding on the M25 Highway and asks:
-"Who do you think you are?! , Nigel Mansell?"
and Ayrton's response : - No, Senna... :-)

I like this comment about it in Pitpass.com:

"Last week it was reported that Michael Schumacher had once been stopped for speeding during a trip to America. Michael recalled with great amusement that the officer that stopped him didn't recognize him.

The police that stopped Ralf apparently had no such trouble recognising the WilliamsF1 star, it seems that although the German was travelling at high speed, he was never observed overtaking anyone!"

I was once told off by the security staff at Silverstone for driving too fast on one of the access roads. The guy also told me that Damon Hill had been fined 2000 for speeding around the perimiter road in a Honda (sorry Acura for you Americans!) NSX!
He was fined by the BRDC (British Racing Drivers Club) who own the circuit and Damon is a member!

Adrew
Ralf ain't a champ yet, just a guy who can't keep up with his teammate (JPM). Ralf has had other issues like a fender bender and less than perfect eye sight to deal with (Think Christian Fittipaldi of F1).

I have trouble keeping the speed down just returning from Germany to the US. Can't imagine what is would be like for someone like Greg Ray after a day of racing at TMS.

Funny!

Greg Ray IRL driver lives in the Dallas area and hit the news a few years ago when he won the IRL race at Texas Motor Speedway and got a speeding ticket driving home from the track in his Vette.

Can you see him trying to tell the police officer his perception of speed is off a little because... and can you give me a warning? No! The officer was not a racing fan did not know who he was and said, "No sir you will recieve a speeding ticket I don't care who you think you are".

IRL speeds at TMS are average 200 mph

TRUE story!

Younger Schumacher could lose driver's license
Associated Press

FRANKFURT, Germany -- Ralf Schumacher could end up driving only Formula One cars.

The younger of the Schumacher brothers was caught speeding by Austrian police and could lose his driving licence, Germany's Bild am Sonntag newspaper and Austrian radio reported Sunday.

Schumacher was on the way to a party given by his BMW-Williams team when he was stopped. He was driving 50 km/h per hour over the 80 km/h limit.

The German Formula One driver, who lives in Austria, had already lost his licence for two weeks after he was caught for speeding in April 2001.

Ralf is the younger brother of Michael Schumacher, the five-time Formula One champion and Ferrari driver.
