The local Ferrari store told me that at the recent meeting they were told unequivacably that the 360 replacement is not getting the 4.2 motor. This does not rule out some derivative, but when you think about it, even if they began with the maser motor, every part including the block would end up different. They would sure use 5 valve heads, titanium rods, etc. which would mean a new block as well. I would bet that the Ferrari motor would also have a more oversquare bore/stroke ratio and much higher redline. One would have to think Ferrari will incorporate all they know about motors from previous ones which would include the 4.2, but any connection would likely end there.

I've warned you guys before, but until Ferrari actually announces something, it's just a rumor. I've been a Ferrari watcher for over 25 years, and remember when the 408 was THE replacement for the 328; that the F50 was ceratainly going to have a semi-auto gearbox; that the FX was going to have 7 speeds, etc, etc. Not to mention all the hokey 348 "spy shots" that came out.
While I may end up wrong on this, I would not depend on the 360 replacement to have 4.2 or 4.0 or any particular specs until it's official. I do believe it will be a derivative of the new Maserati 4.0L, don't take any of the rumors for truth. Ferrari loves to float BS and is also fond of changing it's mind at the last minute.

IMO, I WOULD HAZZARD A GUESS THAT ONCE THE NEW "BABY LAMBO" IS SHOWN AT THE PARIS (?) AUTO SHOW, WE WILL START TO BE TITILATED WITH A LITTLE MORE CONCRETE INFORMATION AND SPY SHOTS REGARDING THE 420 MODENA FROM ,DARE I SAY, THE "HOURSE'S MOUTH". |

I talked to Ferrari but they said they won't upgrade engine though..... |

The engine will be 4.2 L-a derivative of the now Maserati engine with 450-460hp in the modena. |

I've heard it's called the 420 Modena. The nose is supposed look more like the Enzo. Don't know about other styling changes. |
