Living in Massachusetts I have always drawn the line at the initial snow/salt onset. The sand and salt beat the crap out of the cars finish. I also do all my own maintenance. Believe me the fasteners come off a lot easier on a car that has never been covered in salt. My Ferrari, and past Ferraris, are not garage queens. My former 308 had 58k miles when I sold it, my TR 40k and my current 348 spider has 46k. I drive my cars.
I tip my hat to the owners that choose to drive Ferraris year round but even a 1"~2" snow fall is a white knuckle experience in a high performance car on fat tires. Been there, done that.

I never have to worry about snow or ice. I live in Texas. My only concern is whether or not my A/C is going to work.

In the rain my 512TR is on the edge of conrtol at 60 mph, I dont even want to think about snow. Some Brit mag did an article where they drove the 550 across Argentina, crazy

I had to drive the 512 from Watkins Glen to Boston once, it rained Every inch & truly sukked azz

Des, other than the performance and price tag these cars are not much different than other cars, they can be driven in bad weather. The only other cars in our household is my wifes BMW and my Daughters Mitzubishi (I hope I spelled that right). I drive my 348 every day no matter what the weather. We just had an ice storm here last week and I drove it to work just like I do any other day. I'm sure there are a few people that think I'm nuts for doing this but @ least I don't have to suffer from those terrible Ferrari withdrawl symptoms. I would be willing to bet there are a lot more owners out there like me than you think!

George,

Forgive me but you are more worried about salt on your lexus then your Testarossa?

Salute!

George, Maybe you should get it converted to 4 wheel drive. You should also look into increasing the ride height and putting off-road tyres on it!:-)

My biggest problem is getting the tire chains on the TR. Last year, one of the chains broke off and I had to drive nearly 10 miles hearing that clangy banging sound on the rear fenders. I'm thinking of taking my Lexus RX300 out of winter storage, but I am concerned about the salt and other debris.

If you have a carbon-fibre car you don't have to worry about salt!!

"Under extremely cold weather conditions that actually saw snow falling on the Fiorano circuit, Luciano Burti began the first day of testing this week for his Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro outfit.

Behind the wheel of the F2002, chassis 221, the Brazilian test driver braved three-degree temperatures and morning snowfall, to begin a program of electronics development ahead of the upcoming 2003 F1 championship season.

Burti completed a total of 15 laps, the quickest being a 1:05692 and will continue the planned schedule on Tuesday."

Like other's have said it's not the snow it's the salt that keeps most cars off the roads. I remember being behind a TR one Feb. day and the driver opened her up right in the middle of the road right thru the salt line. I could see it all getting sucked up onto the car! UUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!

DES

It does not snow in So Cal. You will never hear the phrase, "we'll never make it up that in winter."

It's not the snow or ice to me.It's the dam salt, rocks, pebbles sand and other abrasives slamming up against it all winter. I drive one of my ferrari's everyday till the first major snow storm has them destroy the roads. The dam salt etc does more damage to the roads then the storm ever could.

Ferrari's were raced in the snow...
I drove my TR in the snow.
I drove my 308 in the snow.
I drove my 275 GTB in the snow.
I drove my MK-IV in the snow.
I drove my Maserati Coupe last week in the snow.
Use them, enjoy them.

I got them from the Ferrari Owners Club UK website. They look American to me aswell. I'm sure I found someone's website last year that was dedicated totally to pictures of Ferrari's in the snow.

there were pics in cavalino about a year ago or so of a 348 that was stuck in a blizzard. the owner simply defrosted it after the storm and drove away. the pics so the before and after photos and it is amazing.

I've seen those two snow pics before, they were posted here last year I think, didn't see the black one though before. The 355 is someone in the FCA I think, posing for a Santa like pic in his driveway. The 308 though is a genuine Ferrari in the snow, I think the storm hit while the guy was at work or something. He had his wife pick him or friend to bring him home during the storm. Then the next day he went back to the parking lot to pick up the 308 and this is the pic of it finally getting home. This is just what I remember from memory so I might be off a bit here and there. I could've sworn I had other pics of it on my comp, but no. All the pics are on some Fcar website.

It doesn't really have the tires to drive in the snow, but I would definitely take the 308 out in light snow (an inch or less) if they didn't salt like it was going out of style. Also, I have to justify my jeep ownership by driving it in inclement weather. The salt makes me angry though, like days like today would be great 308 days if the roads weren't white with salt. Bastards. Here's a TR, I think this is from the Ferrari factory actually. 550 is down in Argentina when Forza was doing a ride across the continent, or something like that.

Let's analyze the last photo. Doubtful that it's in England, because the STOP sign in the background looks American. Also, that definately looks like a 1957 Chevrolet 4 door sedan in the background. It is parked on the right hand side of the street which would indicate a NON-English location to me. The first photo definately looks like any right hand drive American highway. And it is the only photo of the 3 to actually indicate that the car is actually on the road. The other 2 photos are off road. But the 308 has tracks leading backward to the street which indicates that it most likely WAS driven in the snow. The center photo only indicates slight blurring of the wheels indicating that they were in motion. Probably just long enough to pose for a "driveway" photo. Further investigation and computer enhancement of all 3 photos should reveal more information. Any further comments from anybody else? Is Anthony "snowing" us???

After a week of not being able to go out for a drive because of work and weather, Friday came and i nearly collapsed from withdrawal... i had to take my chances with the roads and go out for a drive, anyway (and i don't even own a Ferrari)...
My question is this: As an owner of the car of your dreams, what do you do when the weather is bad and your car is locked away for those nasty-weather months...? How do you quench that thirst to be on the road...? i went 5 days and i could barely function (and wound up putting almost 500 miles on my car in 24 hours, because of it), how do you do it for months at a time...?
