Thanks so much to Tillman, he showed me a way to transfer the files server to server vs. using my PC as a go between and the slow DSL speeds. It only took 1 hour vs. 13 hours the other way. FerrariChat.com will still be down for up to 5 hours Sunday for the entire board to be moved. Later today I'll let everyone know the new server address just to test it out. There will be all messages up to about a day ago and any new messages will be overwritten when the final restore goes through. However, it will be good to test everything, including the non-board other sections before the final move. The new server will be without the Trivia and Online Store section for an undetermined amount of time. Both of those require additional complex software installations and aren't a priority at this time. Thanks. |

Hey, Rob, this board is really cool and it seems like you put alot into it... (my boss doesn't like it, though, 'cause i should really be working when i'm instead, on here...) |

The new board is installed on the new server, but it takes me 3.5 hours to download all files and about 15 hours to upload. That's even compressed, y'all post a bunch of messages and pics! I have DSL, and even though the download is 700k, the upload is 150k and that's what hurts time wise. It's best I just shut the board down while I transfer the data and test it. By Monday morning you should notice it's back up. The new server is about 20% of the costs with about 300% the performance. Although it might not be noticeable because the bottle necks are not usually with the server. The new server will allow several new features like a real time member list with sortable fields for like city, state, model, serial number, and etc. Tomorrow and Saturday you may see a message from me to have a few users test out the new server to make sure all is working before we transfer the data. Thanks, rob |
