Dave In Stuart Fla. There is a place called Confusion Corner. It has been named that since the time horse and buggys used the corner, intersection. There are so many fender benders there but because of it being historic it remains a real mess. Oh well.

Magoo. Worse than that here in CT. we have 3 way stop's at 4-way intersections in some of the old downtowns.
You cringe watching people proceed thinking its thier turn not knowing the other lane has no stop.

People in Atlanta who think that just because they have more than one person in the car they have to be in the HOV lane. People it's not a requirement it's optional! Why can't they realize that if they are going slower than the traffic to the right of them they don't need the express lane! Move over!

Getting back to the original "pet peeve" on this thread, I found 8 348's currently for sale on ebay, and 4 of them have wheels mounted on the wrong corners! I like the other peeves you guys have listed - how about having the neighbor's cat take a nap in/on your Ferrari?

people who speed up to pass and then once they pass they slow down!!!!aaaargh!
people in a hurry to pull out of a side street in front of you and when they do they go 10mph slower than the speed limit while yakking on their cell phones totally oblivious of the mayhem they left in their wake.

2. people who roll instead of coming to complete stop (They think the red sign only applies if another car is coming).
3. Badly repainted cars of any kind.
4. black shoe marks from people kicking my passenger door sill.

2---liars

3---con-artists.

Apathy for the above isn't real high on my ok list either.

The problems I've had with people asking me how much my stuff costs:
1) They tell me where I could've gotten it cheaper.
2) Tell me "They wouldn't have spent that much on it." Yeah, no sh!t.
3) They turn around and tell someone else.

1) People looking at the car, leaning over it, with cokes/coffees/etc. and dripping.
2) Passengers who wear rings and knock on the window to indicate a point or site of interest--makes me want to do a finger amputation on the spot.
3) "Say, isn't a new Corvette, like, a lot cheaper, and like almost as fast."
4) "Midlife crisis?"
5) "My (insert Detroit iron here) is a way better car."
6) Parking 200 yards away from any other cars, at the far corner of the parking lot, and then having someone park right next to me (not an enthusiast, but a well aged citizen with car door incontinence).
7) "If it is a Ferrari, why isn't it red?" (Response--look at the airbox covers)
8) (Mostly) American cars with unidirectional looking wheels that are the same at all 4 positions, leaving two on one side that are turning the correct direction, and two that aren't.

Jim, I agree. It pisses me off so much when people nose into my private business. When they ask me what I paid for my car I say "A LOT!" They look at you with a look like a deer caught in the headlights. The reason they don't ask about your house is that they can look that up in the tax records. Very little is private info. anymore. We are losing that right, "To be private."

Hey Jerry, are you in the movies?

I get annoyed when people ask me what my car cost too. They don't ask what my house/shoes/glasses/anything else cost, why do they think it's their business with my Ferrari? My response depends on who asked.

Fred referring to your post about your ten pet peeves, I found the one about the 3 different kinds of gasoline from 1 truck to be interesting. How do they keep the kinds of gas seperate? Do they even do that? Is it mixed after the fact?

There are two kinds of flat 12s: a) horizontally opposed, and b) boxer.

The horizontaly opposed has a porsche-like crankshaft (one con rod per throw--two throws 180 degrees apart per pair of pistons) where paired pistons more in opposite directions. Since each pair of pistons are perfectly balanced with each other, only rotational vibrations are induced.

The boxer has two con-rods/pistons on a single throw. This style is a V with 180 degree firing order. This style is known as boxer, because these engines box back and forth, rotating on an axis perpendicular to the crankshaft (think verticle); left front to the left (say 2 mm), then right front to the right (again 2 mm), and repeat.

As you know, a 12 cylinder engine can be balanced perfectly (1st order) when the bank angle is a multiple of 720/12 == 60 degrees. So there can be 60 d V12s, 120 d V12s, and 180 d V12. What is not known is that correct choice of rod length to stroke can result in perfect second and tertiary balance.

Therefore, the boxer flat 12 is a 180 degree V12! See "Design and tuning of competition engines"

That question is the only one I can say truly annoys me. It's not that I'm trying to pretend it's super expensive, it's just like they're trying to size you up or something. Like do I ask you how much it cost you (or your parents) to buy your car, etc. Of course not unless you're one of 6 closest friends. It's just inappropriate IMO and horrible manners. That said I always lay it out for them like you said Tillman, maybe someday they'll be in a 308 too which would be cool. Explain purchasing costs, maintenance, and modifying. A lot of them you can tell will never own an older Ferrari, but it's good to be polite anyway I guess.

Good question T

Actually most kids usually ask me how fast does it go but it's other people who ask me how much ask this question with the attitude that I must've spent a lot of money on the car just to show-off.

Indeed the car does cost quite a bit and it attracts attention but the only reason I spent so much money on it is the driving pleasure I get out of it.

You know, I've never understood why people are upset with the "how much is it" question. I've been asked that several times since I bought my car, and don't have a problem telling people. In fact, I usually make a point that it cost about the same as an SUV.

Most of the people asking are teenagers, and I feel that by explaining the cost and that they're within reach, I'm helping motivate them at least a little.

Of course, I don't ask other people that question, because they might be offended and it's really not my business.

So, why does it bother you? Just curious.

Thanks
T

Jim: the 348 has four different wheels. Each wheel is supposed to fit its own corner. If your tire store isn't watching what they do, they fit a tire with directional tread on the wrong wheel. Or if someone rotates the tires, you end up with tread pointed in the wrong direction. I don't really know how many Ferraris use directional wheels. But it would be a good idea for anyone whose Ferrari uses directional tread tires to take a quick look and make sure they are fitted correctly!

On the 348 directional wheels...do they vary from one side to the other? I just figured they made the spokes slant one way and on the opposite side they just slanted back instead of front...you know like on those cheap steel directional wheels Hmm...

Jeff,

It just shows that people who are owning these car know nothing about them. Actually it is very important to mount the wheels the right way: They were designed that way to suck air to the brakes and cool them. If you mount them the wrong way not enough fresh air can cool down the brakes which might lead to mediocre brake performance. Not very good if you get into trouble...

Con saluti cordialissimi,
Jens Haller

P.S. By the way: It just looks stupid, too IMO

This may be nitpicky, but I get annoyed when people refer to the flat 12's of the 512BB and TR's as being V-12s. Sometimes they even call them 180 degree V-12,s technically correct, but the factory calls them flat 12s, so...

Why is it that you see so many 348's with the wheels mounted on the wrong sides of the car? How many of these cars are running around with directional tread tires running backwards? You see it on ebay cars quite often. I saw a 348SS in the showroom at a dealership with backwards wheels, and the salesman didn't care! The 348 Buyer's Guide in "FORZA" features a red 348 with the rear wheels swapped. Any other "pet peeves" out there?
