Willis, i have every intention of joining, i just have to hold out a little bit longer... i look forward to meeting most of the people, here on the board and chatting with them about their experiences and their Ferraris- especially you, Willis; the 360 holds a special place in my heart (right next to the diablo- :::DIABLO, DIABLO, DIABLO, DIABLO!::: )

DES,

You want to broaden your Ferrari knowledge? Then you really should join your local FCA chapter immediately and go to the events. Ferrari ownership is not mandatory and the fees are quite reasonable. That way, you get to see these wonderful machines up close and personal (way better than looking at photos). Talk to the owners about them. Contrary to what some people say, most Ferrari owners are not uptight.

Grigio, i've only dreamed about writing for an auto publication since before i could even read...! That would just be a dream come true- ('cause it would also mean that i could get to test-drive some of these gorgeous ladies!)

Des,

With this much enthusiasm for the "machines" and pretty good descriptive writing style, perhaps you may look into writing for an Automotive publication. Hey, I even hear that they get to trash those "press cars."

By the way, Greg, the picture in your profile is awesome- the green back drop just brings out the red in your car, even more... Did you take the photo yourself...?

Greg, i have every intention of joining Ferrari of North America when my finances permit- my schedule is hectic and my reading is already backed up, but i'll speak with a friend i know who works at B&N and if some of you guys can refer me the names of specific books i should pick up, i'll certainly put them on my list... As you said, most of the Ferrari community is warm and inviting- i get that from most of the people here... Attending events is something i'd flip out over, if i could do it, however, maybe i can fit that in my schedule, next year...

Warren, to say that my enthusiasm is temporary might be wisdom- i'm not sure, it seems everyone here knows more than i, however my passion for exotics and driving in general rivals my passion for all other things (including women!)... Within me stirs such an excitement- a pure exhileration for driving, totally unparallel to anything i've ever felt, before... (look in the off-topic section for my "million dollar opportunity post, which i haven't posted yet, 'cause i'm too excited to word it clearly)... Whenever i see a Ferrari or a Lamborghini (or even a Lotus or a really nice Porsche or a BMW), i'm just overcome... all else faDES while i stare in admiration...

i'm 23 years old, i work for an insurance brokerage (life, health, disability, dental, auto, p&c, mutual funds, retirement planning, etc- Rob, send me a bill for the plug. :-))...
i've liked exotics my entire life... i started with matchbox and hot wheels cars before i could walk... i was driving way before i had a license (and boy did i pay for that!)- it's in my blood, i guess... my father was the same way, i guess i get it from him...

i work hard- without a college degree, i'm only gonna get so far and make so much, no matter how hard i work... i'm content with how things are, for me... sure, there are things i want, but i guess if i wanted them bad enough, i would go back to college... there's a Ferrari (or some other exotic) in my future... i just have to be patient... it's not in the cards for me, right now, and i can accept that... i've had an interesting life so far and past events have led up to me having a pretty good grasp on the concept of life...

My enthusiasm- my "energy", my excitement, is just a way for me to blow off some of the steam that builds up from this passion inside me... famous athletes, actors, etc aren't really people i look up to, but some of the people on here are more my speed to admire... people who have worked for what they wanted, got it and now they enjoy it with the same enthusiasm they had before they had ANYTHING else... that's cool... Guys like Chris Parr really impress me... He's so busy with all the stuff he does, his F40 was on the December cover of Forza (i have that issue!), he's got some professional racecar driver staying at his house and he seems so big-time yet, when i emailed him he treated me with respect, answered my questions, told me he was happy to speak with a fellow enthusiast, even though i'm no where close to owning my own Ferrari... Most of the people on this board are really cool...

Um, ok, i'm babbling...

DES,

The best advise I can offer is go to Barnes & Noble or any of the big bookstores with about $80 and buy 2 or 3 good Ferrari books. You learn so much by reading, reading, reading...I've got about 20 in my collection that amongst them, cover every single car build by Ferrari.

As stated before, with Ferrari's "modern" cars, they have been on a 3-5 year cycle with the exception of the 308 (although it did have many upgrades within the series). 328 from 1986 - 1989, 348 from 1990 to 1994, 355 from 1995 to 1999, and 360's from 2000 to present. These are the rough timelines realizing that Ferrari was noted for building a car, mine for example in late 1983, delivering in early 1984, and titling it as an '84.

Next, get involved with FOC or FCA and attend thier events. Talk to owners, ride with the owners, etc. The majority of the Ferrari community is warm, inviting, and enjoy talking about and sharing thier machines.

Put that energy towards your future Ferrari.

Des,

Utilize half of the energy for your work that you do writing, dreaming, and talking about these cars and soon you will have all of the cars you want and then you will look back on your posts and sigh... because no matter what anyone says, the enthusiasm you currently possess is temporary -at least to the degree that it is now.

Des's enthusiasm makes me nostalgic. How old are you? What do you do? Why are you such a nut?

Please keep up the posts!

Kevin...! WOW...! You rode in the passenger's seat of an F40...?! On the track...?! , , , , ...!

i can't help it, i get so excited when i hear these things... Like Bart said, i tell my friend, "i talk to guys who drive these things everyday..."
i just can't get over it, you guys talk about Bulls & Horses like it's nothing... driving an exotic is all i ever think about... driving is the only thing that really soothes me...

Yes, i've learned alot from these guys, they're all very knowledgeable (except for L. Wayne, he doesn't know anything! :-))

PS- i hate coffee.

Sounds like you are somewhat new to the history of Ferrari. You can learn a lot from these guys. We all share your enthusiasm. I felt the same way you do when I got to be a passenger in an F40 on a racetrack. That was two years ago and I think about it nearly every day.

Just put down the coffee cup.

Ferrari always have replacement cars waiting in the wings. Keeps the product lines fresh and exciting. Makes no sense to build 2 V8 cars with the same mission. Although the 355 spider was still available for a while in the beginning of the 360 production in 1999(360 spider was not ready).

One way a 360 is louder than a 355 in traffic (lower rev range) would be because the 360 has a Tubi exhaust and the 355 doesn't. Another is that the guy in the 360 was aggressive on the throttle in traffic. 360's, in general, are smoother and quieter especially at idle.

:-)

i didn't realize i was exuding that much energy (well, according to you guys, maybe exuding isn't the right word- gushing would probably be a better DEScription...!)

Howie, the energy's natural, but Bart's right, i do induce an obscene amount of sugar throughout the day. i had a diabetic look me in the eye, once and he dropped dead on the floor, right on the spot (jk).

Francisco, it sounded sweet, however it wasn't as loud as the 360- why is that...? Maybe it was the other traffic that drowned it out, but i don't think so...

William- i think that's how my friends would describe me- a bit of a spaz, but a good dog...!

Why did they stop making the 355s...? They're nice cars, why couldn't they go ahead with the production of the 360s and continue with the 355s...?

LMAO!! I had a dog like that too, a golden retriever. He kept running to the sliding glass door when he was a puppy. He was a bit of a spaz but a good dog.

yes DES, i think in the states the 355 was available from 1995-1999,the 360 was introduced as a replacement for the 355 in 1999,i do think the 355 began production in 1994 for the european market.
btw how did it sound? :-) *grin* :-)

Looks like DES had a bit to much sugar :-)

It's the same way I reacted when I read about Tim having a house with a karting track nearby.
You just want to scream it out. I told all my buddy's about Tim's house, kinda showing off, "I know someone with a own karting track including a HUGE house and a F40 etc. etc."
And I only read about it, never seen it or anything. It's just that it makes you dream about it, having my own karting track (and the realizing it IS possible). It makes me smile again :-)

DES reminds me of our dog when he's ready to fetch a tennisball orso.
So excited, like he wants to say. "trow the ball, trow the ball. Come on !!, TROOWWWW the ball !!"
Just great :-)

How do you get all this energy? Is it natural or chemically induced? ;)
Please share....

Oh, man, this was a sweet one...!

i was on my lunch break today and, as i was approaching a red light, i saw a blue 355 sitting in the next lane...
"Whooo...!", i screamed, as i came to a stop and ogled this beautiful work of art. The guy looked over at me and i gave him a thumbs up. He smiled (he smiled at me!) and rolled down his window (he talked to me!).
i asked him if that was a 355 and he said yeah (i got it right!), i told him it was a real sweet car. He said it was a '95. He also mentioned that the 360 Modena was the model that replaced the 355s. When the light turned green, he said, 'later.' and pulled away, making a left turn into traffic, never to be seen again (:-().

My question is, is that true...? Was the 360 Modena the replacement for the 355s...?
