Thanks guys. I am just wondering because GA has a new law that the VIN must match what is on your insurance papers, or they will fine you. Just another way to make money, "love" the government. Anyway, I appreciate all the help and hope to be on the site more soon. Charles |

The F106 thing only appears on some of the VIN plates on my car. The steering column only says: Chassis No *10280*. This is for a '75 'GT4. My Oregon title only say 10280, as does my insurance papers, etc. |

I don't think there is a right or wrong -- my impression is that someone just made up a VIN for the pre-1980 Fs so they must vary somewhat. |

Ooops! Steve, you're right. I just checked my registration and the VIN is 308GTB19399. This information is on the Identification Plate on the steering column. The Chassis Serial Number stamped on the frame has the F106AB prefix before the S/N. The Identification Plate on the engine has the F106A prefix. All this for a 1976 308GTB. VIN numbers must vary from state to state. Sorry, Charles. Barry |

Unfortunately, not all pre-1980 F VINs are as logical as Barry indicates (although I'd bet many do follow his suggested convention). My ex-'78's VIN was (model)+(serial number) -- i.e.: 308GTS25375 The "F106AB" is just one of the possible 308 engine family names (my ex-'78 US version was F106AE) -- look at your "VEHICLE EMISSION CONTROL INFORMATION" plaque in the engine compartment. |

Yes, for your 1977 308 it should be F106AB(your chassis number) Barry |

Everyone, Haven't been on the site for a while, been busy, and miss it, but I have a question. What should the VIN number look like on my 77 308? I want to make sure that the insurance papers match the title, and people are telling me different things. It should start with something like F106AB(then chassis number) correct, or is the B not on some of them? Thanks for the info. |
