There is a problem with that valve in 355s too. One of the guys from the NSX files has a small page about when he had to have his replaced.

I think your dealer may be talking about the vacuum valve over the exhaust. It's well known to start vibrating loudly when it's been pushed hard. Mine has been changed twice.

1995 were the only ones with the valve problems. They were recalled and should have been replaced by the dealers by now. They wore too fast and consequently leaked oil (big surprise with Fcars), a problem with the Nikasil composite. 95s were the most powerful though, so I guess if they were properly repaired they would be really great.

I believe you're referring to the valve guide problems. The story I heard is that early 355s had their valve guides made out of a relatively soft, fast wearing material. These guides could wear out in as few as 15K miles. Later cars were built using a better material in the guides and don't have this problem.
The car's serial number and assembly number (look for a data plate on the left hand side of the engine bay) are the key to finding out if a particular car has the early or late guides. A knowledgable mechanic will be able to tell you after he has seen the numbers.
Good Luck.

I have just purchased a 97 F355 and the local dealer is telling me that all the 355's up to 1998 had valve problems. Can any one let me know if anyone has any information about this.
