I agree, the grey 308 is definitely NOT an 84. Unless, the conversion was done in 84. Maybe that's what they meant. From the photos, it's clearly an 80-82 model. It's certainly not a QV, that's for sure. Overall, I like the idea as an experiment, just to see what the 308 would look like as a true spider. But now that I see it in reality, Ferrari probably made the wise choice to just make a GTB and GTS version. I'm just not thrilled by that roofline with the spider top up, it's too weird to my eye. |

I was in Ft Lauderdale about 4 years ago and saw a green 308 that had been cut, come to find out it was an 84 and was done by Stramann. The car was perfect and had a very usable top. Cost a cool $45,000.00 to take a chain saw to it. Wade www.fortunemotors.com |

you might be right about the grill but it hard to count the spaces in this pic - there should be 6 and this one looks like 5 but it might be the pic. This pic does not really revel the inside but the engine does protrude into it unlike a 308. as you said not bad |

Not sure I agree with some of your statments. The middle grill looks about right and I don't think you see the engine coming into the compartment in a real one (only if you take the rear cover off can you see it). I think they got amazingly many details right (more than I have ever seen in any 288 replica). Things that are wrong are the missing two 'cuts' in the front nose (going down from the fenders) and the rear wheel looks as if it is going inside (not the case in the real one). The horsey and pinni badges are easy to fix (you're right, they're missing). Hard to tell from this angle, but it looks as if they even got the rear bonnet right. Something I have never seen in any kit available. Might be a one off. |

another give away is the front wheel well comes down too straight in front of thr wheel. Real ones had more of an angle forward. The front air vents in the spoiler are also a little off |

yeah, but no pinni badge on the side -- no horse in the front. the middle grill looks too narrow. but does have some other things that work. also the engine on a real 288 comes between the seats on the interior, this one does not appear to be this way |

Interestingly enough the link I posted earlier today is now no longer valid. Did somebody really buy this car off line? Hard to believe... |

Tom, if it is, it is a really good one. It has the suttle details of the 288. The brake ducts under the door, the euro lights, the daytona seats, and the mirrors. Looks very good. It would look better as a GTB |

Whoa! That's actually a 288 GTO Spider...at least on the outside. Smashing, who ever thought of that! Bert, I still like yours A LOT better. Good going! |

Bert, that sorta reminds me of a Pantera, but without the wing in the back... i like it, actually... looks beefy... sorta says, "hey... don't with me." |

I have seen this F-car 308 convertible on the web. http://www2.thecarexperience.com/pls/carexp/car_exp.car_page?p_car_id=5368 I find it to be a good looking car. To bad Ferrari never choose to make a factory spider. They ask $66K for it. Not sure if I'd want to pay a big premium for a non-factory roof cut. Being a tube frame car I didn't think the body was nearly as important in lending ridgity to it compared to a unitized body car. |

Not trying to promote this ebay auction, but I was always wondering what a 308 would look like cut open: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=7251&item=1875425357 Of course it's not a F car (at least not as in Ferrari), but it looks interesting. Does anybody know, if any real 308s have ever been converted? Personally I still like it better with the sweeping C columns. Also always wondered if it would take a lot away from the stiffness of the car. Probably does. |
