Around these parts, we always say give it a good hard (hot) drive for an hour before smogging it (any car) you'd be amazed and the difference that can be made when you get the cats toasty before checking their effectiveness. If you have cats, of course. -Ben |

I am open to suggestions, what would be the first thing for me to do. I am a fair mechanic, and can do most of the stuff myself, but I do not have all the "correct" tools at an immediate use. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks |

Charles -- if your car is idling/running reasonably well, I think it should be possible to get <390 ppm HC. But before tweaking mixture you really need to make sure that the ign. timing and carb airflow (balance) are OK. Emissions and Ferrari -- always an adventure! |

Steve, I believe they read: At exhaust CO = MAX 1.5% HC = MAX 300 p.p.m. At each cylinder: CO = MAX 2.0% +/- 1.5% HC = MAX 300 p.p.m. Mine is a good bit higher, CO = 10%, and HC is at 585. How much would turning the mixture screws in help, or do you think that I have leaks in the carbs? |

Charles -- Are the '77 US CO/HC specs much different than the '78 US specs (just curious)? |

Steve, It does have the label, I don't know how I missed that. I appreciate it. |

Charles -- Isn't there a "Vehicle Emission Control Information" label riveted to the flat part of the chassis adjacent to the rear upper shock mount on the Driver's (left) side? (Also check the "Identification data" shown in Section 1 of the Owner's Manual -- sometimes legible copies of the various labels are shown there too.) My ex-'78 (which has cats unlike your '77) shows: AT EACH CYLINDER WITHOUT AIR INJECTION CO = 6% +/- 1% HC = MAX 300 P.P.M. AT EXHAUST TAIL PIPES AIR INJECTION CO = MAX 1% HC = MAX 200 P.P.M. But this shouldn't be a big deal -- lean it out to pass the test and then just open each mixture screw 1/4~1/2 turn afterwards to unlean -- BTDT. |

Guys, Anybody know of what the factory standards would be on the Hydrocarbons and CO for a American version 77 308? I have been told that if I lean the car down to pass inspections it will burn up the valves. I do not want to do that, and I cannot get a waiver unless I can prove that my car is running near what the factory put it out doing. Any help would be appreciated. |
