That's a good point Magoo. You can feel the front end get light in a high speed turn. Those Euro 308s probably do back flips like the CLK-GTRs did last year in DM. |

Those heavy U.S bumpers on the early 308s are to keep the car from becoming airborne. |

There are two seperate and distinct 308 series cars. The first 308 series was the 308 GT4 (1973-1976??) built as a successor to the 246 Dino series (which ended production in 1974), and was also badged as a Dino (rather than a Ferrari) for the first year or two of production. This 308 GT4 was a four-seater styled by Bertone, a designer known for angular "wedge" shapes. This is the only car that Bertone did for Ferrari during that time period. The earlier 246 Dinos, and the later 308/328 two-seater series were all Pinninfarina designs, and were much "curvier". The GT4 got the current 8 cylinder engine (instead of the 246's 6 cylinder), and by most accounts was quick and fun to drive. This wedge-shaped 308 GT4 has been overlooked by many Ferrari enthusiasts precisely because of this "odd" shape, and because of the belief that true Ferraris are 2-seaters, leading to very low current pricing. An excellent example can be bought for under 30k, and you can take the kids along, or pack enough bags for the weekend. |

I have noticed what you are refering to on the QV's. Especially from the side. If you look at the bottom of a QV on the side is has black stripping down by the door. This gives the car the appearance of being narrower than the 2V cars. My 78' 308 has red and no black on the bottom just under the door. |

Yeah, those bumpers are weighty, but this is the look I grew up with, and to me, this is what looks right. The Euro bumpers, though sleek and light, just don't look right to my Magnum PI eye. Funny how just your brain makes things right and wrong, when there is no right and wrong. |

And those US bumpers weigh 50lbs a piece, that's a 100 lbs out on each end of the car, no wonder they're so much slower than Euros (aside from the engine differences). |

Chris, I agree with Tommy in that the older style USA bumper tends to give the front end a wedge look. |

I agree Chris, I looked long and hard for a 308, originally leaning towards a GT/4 but getting a GTSi. Even with several GTB/S's sitting next to each other they look different from each other... I also agree with Doc Tommy, mine is red but love the yellow! |

The 308 body never did change. You are probably noticing differences such as Euro spoiler/US spoiler, Euro bumpers/US bumpers, GTB/GTS, QV spoiler, etc. Color can play a role as well. I think the yellow or black GTB is much sleeker looking then the red ones. |

Hello again everyone, I've been researching 308's for my first purchase and am confused about the body shape. According to the "Original Ferrari V8" book I just bought, the body style for the 308 never changed throughout its run until they softened the lines on the 328. I may be in the minority here, but the more sharp and angular the "wedge" look, the better I like it. Out of the many 308's I've seen, no matter what year, I'd swear I see a variety of those which look more angular, and those that look softer or more rounded. Am I imagining this? Could it be the effect of the deep spoiler option? Could it be the wheels and tires as well? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed. ~Chris |
