I have test pipes on my 96 355 and they are well worth doing. This will cut down over heating problems the 355 exhaust systems seem to have while giving you more power and a wounderful sound. I have seen first hand the melt down of cats and headers due to the heat build up. |

Thanks for all your replies. I called the F- Dealership. They took down my vin # and got back to me... finally. They said, yes it is under warranty but they were skeptical that the converter was the problem. They asked me a few questions (Frank asked the same questions): Was it the oxygen sensors? the answer is no. Anyways, they want me to bring it in so they can test it out. Thanks again for everyone's help. |

Warren: Make sure that you get the new converters. They have an upgrade, and the cost on those are over 3800 each. I don't know if you can just replace one. However the dealer should do this under warranty. Art |

This is a good reason to get a set of test pipes. Save the CATS and find a used one when you're ready to sell or upgrade the car. |

From the sema.org website at http://www.sema.org/content/?ID=22238 The dealership cannot refuse to replace your converter under warranty 2. Clean Air Act Warranty Provisions (42 U.S.C. S 7541 (C) (3) (B)) The federal Clean Air Act requires vehicle makers to provide two emissions-related warranties -- a production warranty and a performance warranty. The production warranty requires the vehicle maker to warrant that the vehicle is designed, built and equipped so that it conforms with emissions requirements at the time of sale. The performance warranty requires the vehicle maker to warrant that the vehicle will comply with applicable emissions requirements as tested under state vehicle emissions inspection programs for the warranty periods specified in the law (for model year 1995 and later vehicles, the warranty is 2 years/24,000 miles for all emissions-related parts and 8 years/80,000 miles for the catalytic converter, electronic emissions control unit and on-board diagnostic device). The performance warranty is conditioned on the vehicle being properly maintained and operated. Vehicle manufacturers may not refuse warranty repairs under the Clean Air Acts performance and defect warranties merely because aftermarket parts have been installed on the vehicle. The only circumstance under which the vehicle manufacturer can void the emissions warranties is if an aftermarket part is responsible for (causes) the warranty claim.

Mark, I just called my mechanic. Not the ECUs. It's the right converter. I'm going to call Ferrari and ask about the converter. If they don't replace it then I think I might go with the pipes. What do you guys think |

Warren Might be the Oxygen sensor ECU (s) one on each side, they crack and moisture gets in causing this fault. Worth having them checked first before replacing the Cat. LH side mounted on rear of damper support, RH mounted on plate behind wheel arch where the two Vacuum Solenoids are mounted and the Vacuum Pump BTW Ferrari have stopped supplying the Ceramic cats in the UK and now only supply a Metallic replacement ofr around $2,600 plus tax! |

No crinkle, no annoying sound. I don't know which side it's on. I just noticed it when my check engine light came on and I took it in to get checked out. The mechanic told me that he ran the computer diagnosis and the light turned off but before it did the results said that the converter needed to be replaced. |

I have close to 17000 miles on the car. I don't know what side it's on and it's a '97. Do you guys think I can get a new converter from Ferrari? This sounds suspicious. How do I go about asking for one and why do I feel like the F-dealership would just tell me No. |

Federal law has a 7 year limit to the 100K miles. Question is it the left hand (drivers) side? Does it crinkle with an anoying sound? |

What's the mileage on the car? I think that Federal law requires that catalytic converters are warranteed for 100K miles or so. I had a friend who had one replaced at 80K on a Dodge for free by the dealer due to this law. |

Hello Everyone, I was away for awhile. Business not pleasure unfortunately. Anyways, I came back to a nice surprise -I might need a new catalytic converter for my 355. What a welcome back gift. I was quoted 1250 for a brand new one, without installation. Any suggestions? Can I just take out the converter? Thanks for all your suggestions. And HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE |
