Sounds like Martin has it right. I agree the 348 is a great daily driver, I drive my 90ts every day and it does just fine. All of the stuff you are wondering about doing to the car is available. The car is not terribly expensive to own. I also recommend Ferrai Of Atlanta, they have a really great service department.

For insurance call Geico. I have insurance with them and it cost me $ 580/6mos. full coverage. Depends on your record though!

As for daily driver, a 348 or355 is perfectly capable of that.

3000 Miles an oil change $150
15,000 Miles major service $ 4500
Clutch varies with how good (or me bad) you clutch. The clutch is $2500, if yuo are an idiot (like me) the flywheel will cost you another $3500. You can go 25,000 average with a clutch from comments I have seen here. Ther eis cars with 40+K Miles on a clutch. As I said, depends on you. You can also resurface the clutch for about $700 including labor.
No other gremlins.

My average yearly bill for service is $ 2500 to $3000 driving 7,000 Miles per year. At 3,000 Miles I would imagine just a few bucks less.

As for body shops e-mail Frank Parker. He lives in your area and surely knows shops.

David Handa: Thanks for the tip. I've done lots of research before my post so unfortunately all my questions remain, al though the 348 Guide was helpful. It cleared up some misconceptions I had after reading The Original and Forza's 348 Guide.

Wait until you are about 6 months from buying before you start asking for test drives. 2-3 years is a long time and many things may change before then. Ferrari of Atlanta is a good place in my opinion, although my experience is somewhat limited because I have only bought 1 car from them. (Levi is a real nice guy, straight-forward and will keep you posted of any arrivals that may interest you))

the Koenig will not go for less but if you add the expense the Koenig kit costs and see the value next to it, well the Koenig goes for the same as the regular models. If there is a mark up for the Koenig it is minor.

Mods will not make the car worth one cent more. Even a Tubi will not bring more in resale value. You do those things to make something happen for yourself.

Personally the 348 is well worth the money. The 355 has more power and thus may make it unnecessary for you to mod it. Will cost you more money though to buy.

FoA are good people. They have a good reputation for service. I would start asking questions there and poke around, let them know what you are in the market for. When they see you are serious they will let you drive. Stay with one particular sales man in used car sales. If he is not there leave a short message for him the next time you come by. Loyalty is a value that will be repaid to the customer!

...I hope so...but don't think so...:-(

I think it depends on model type also...

modded 348s are not a car people like to buy modded..

Luke--Check out www.nsxfiles.com--the guys on that website race Acuras/Hondas, but own Ferraris and have done some minor mods (intake/exhaust) to them. Norwood performance in Texas seems to do a lot of wild mods--might be worth searching this board for posts, then calling them. But be careful--Ferrari's are scary expensive to fix, and mods tend to bury the resale value.

I'll go right to the end of your query. Any mods you do beyond exhaust will reduce the car's value. With Ferraris, originality is the holy grail when it comes time to sell.

While not a new Ferrari admirer by any stretch of the imagination, I *am* recently obsessed.

I�ve been playing with Japanese and European cars for a while -- and spending lots of money tuning them -- but it was only weeks ago � while pondering my next project � that I realized the holy grail � a Ferrari � isn�t so inconceivable.

�fast forward through lots of research�

�so I�ve decided I�d like to get a hold of a Ferrari once I pay off a large chunk of my new home (in 2-3years), and I think I�d like it to be a 348 ( or perhaps by then a 355) -- I actually prefer the look of the 348, but the 355�s accomplishments go with out saying.

Here are my questions:

I�ve never driven a Ferrari, how can I go about taking one or two for a spin to see if it�s for me?

How good of a dealership is Ferrari of Atlanta?

Are there any good independent service shops in the area?

�what about restoration/body shops, who�s the best in town?

How much is a 348 going to cost me a year, assuming 3-5K/year?

How reliable are the 348�s (�90+)?

How much will insurance cost me, assuming 3-5K/year. I�m 26.

And most importantly� �tuneability.� No car, not even a Ferrari, is much fun for me if I can�t tweak and personalize it. Beyond a Tubi, filter, and chip, what is reasonable, keeping maintainability, reliability and resale in mind, for the 348? Are turbos doable? How much would a set up cost? How much would it destroy resale? Is there anyone locally that has/can do the work?
