The first p1800 was designed by a Italian stylist named Frus, it was a swedish designer Pelle Petterssen who took credit for the final shape. heres a picture of my 67 p1800s |

I drove a P1800 when I was an undergrad. It reminded me more of a FIAT from the rust it developed. It actually rusted thru the floorboard. It ran good, though. |

JRV, are you sure they were Ferraris...? There's a list somewhere on FerrariChat that tells you every movie that's had a Ferrari, every television show, every song that mentions it, every music video and even all commercials... i was recently looking at that list and i don't recall seeing a commercial mentioned as the one you DEScribed... |

There was a TV commercial years ago with Ferrari's lined up in front of a mansion(i think) ...then a red Volvo pulls up...was that a Ferrari commercial or a Volvo commercial? anyone remember the TV Commercial I'm talking about? |

I don't think it had a separate frame-have to check my p1800 books at home. Best in the world cars are $10,000. |

Does the P1800 have a full perimeter frame, or is it a uni-body? My reason for asking? A friend of mine has a completely intact P1800, and he will probably be selling it real cheap. They look cool, but I've never been a fan of any uni-body type construction. |

Early 1800s were built by jensen in england-later cars moved back to sweden for better quality.Check out a picture of a Maser 3500GT for a "separated at birth". As for horsepower, the turbo 4 engines with 220bhp drop right in. Someone made a supercharger for them too. |

Actually the P1800 was British designed. Yes Bertone has quite a bit of involvement with Volvo, but not with the P1800. They are a rather classic sports car, but really underpowered. Most P1800 would kill to have to power of an early FIAT.... The p1800 was a frua creation-it really looks like the maserati of the period. Certainly gives the feeling of a 50's italian car if you squint your eyes. They drive like old cars too, especially on the 165/15 tires, but are built like tanks. I had a 71 1800e, and I'd say it looked older than my 65 330GT |

Interesting, as I jog by one every morning and never made that connection. I've always liked them though... |

Not sure, but the back of the newer Volvos resemble the back of a 360... i've heard of some domestic involvement in Volvo's production and ownership, is there any truth to that...? |

In looking at photos of the classic P1800 Volvo, it looks like the designers of that car might have been influenced by the early Ferraris. Oval egg-crate grill, sleek styling, small tailfins, etc. Does anybody know the design history of the P1800? Did they have any direct styling connection with Ferrari, or was it just a copy-cat?
