NO WAY has infinite implications and would definitely be awesome, but J.D., someone else mentioned that you should get it no matter what and if she still won't let you have it, hang it up in the garage... i would kill to have something like that, and i don't even own a Ferrari... a plate like that, hanging in your garage is a definite conversation piece... On a related note, i saw a Lumina tonight with the plate: "IGNITION"... anyone have any idea what that might mean...? | ||

Your wife says "no"? Does she tell you what to wear too? Are you kidding me. Get the plate, and if you are that concerned she won't talk to you for a week or two, then enjoy the peace and quiet or don't tell her you got it. Her reasons are just plain silly. No one knows you have a Ferrari? HA, sure they don't. Who is she kidding that people think is a mustang? If your neighbors are morons, maybe you should move anyway. Those "bad" people will find your Ferrari regardless of what the heck your plate says if they want it bad enough. Lastly, after thirty years of marriage, she should give YOU a break. | ||

WHO CARES?? I had a girlfriend who was totally against the personalized license plate. I broke up with her and now who cares?? I am pretty much egocentric, and "my way or high way" I have got letter "G" on my 3 door G500 and "FS" as my initial on my 360. Go with your heart. Your wife does not have to have a ride in your 360, right. So who cares?? | ||

Get the "FERRARI" plate anyway. If the wife still won't let you put in on the car, hang it on the wall in the garage and get a standard plate for the car. | ||

I have a standard DMV issued plate because it is harder to read from a distance at speed. It draws a little less attention from the cops. I don't care what anyone else thinks. I had the license plate "FAST M3" on my e46 M3 and I changed it to a standard DMV plate when I had to change plates because I got a ticket once and the cop said "you know you were kinda asking for it with that license plate." I tell you what though, if I had the opportunity to get "FERRARI" on my Ferrari I would without a doubt. No matter what the wife says. She can get what she wants on her car. | ||

I think I'm in the "if you don't want to draw attention, don't buy a Ferrari" camp here. A 360 SCREAMS at passersby, a license plate won't change that. If you want a subtle Ferrari get a 412 or a 456. I've been in Jeffs shoes though. I drove my car to our lake house last summer and the retired lady next door asked me if I got a new car. I told her I'd had it a while, just hadn't had a chance to drive it to there. The next question was of course, "What is it?". I told her it was a Ferrari. She then asked, "Did you sell your Jaguar?". No. The last question was "What do you do again?" | ||

Ming My wife is ok with owning a Ferrari because she knows it makes ME happy. She bought our first Ferrari as a gift to me for my birthday/father's day/mid-life crises. She probably thinks the car is enough and I can do without the vanity plate. The neighbors are a different situation. Most of our neighbors are retired and are on a fixed income. Some have a resentment toward families who are still working, don't live on a budget, and are still buying toys. We are just trying to fit into the neighborhood without drawing too much attention. | ||

Hi Jeff, I wonder why your wife would agree to have a Ferrari in the first place but object the license plate "Ferrari" Also, why you have to worry about an easy-to-recognise license plate if you are not trying to do something wrong? Just inform your neighbors this is a Ferrari. I don't see there is anything difference between a neighbor who owned a Ferrari or a Toyota to me as long as he or she is a nice person! JD, if i may, please allow me to suggest a counter-balance to your wife's comments (which happen to be very reasonable, i must say). 1. You're not flaunting your good fortune, you're showing your pride in what it means to be a Ferrari owner. (ask her if she has any clothes that have the name of the company that made them on them for others to see. ) 2. You're not advertising, again, you're showing your pride in what it means to be a Ferrari owner. 3. If you're going fast through the neighborhood then they won't be able to see the plate, 'cause- you're going to fast for them to see it...! i'm in the red with this same problem, so i try to keep it to a minimum; all i have to think about is the possibility that i might hit some little kid, running out into the street and that keeps me at the neighborhood speed limit. You're on your own with this one 4. Who cares what your neighbors know...? See #1 for an alternate view of this matter. 5. Get a bat. (LOL, sorry, i couldn't resist! ) i agree with everyone else, you should get it... i wouldn't see it as conceited; There's a big difference between a Ferrari and a Supra (ouch.) and like your wife said, some people might not know what it is or don't know what it is- the license plate would certainly be helpful in figuring out what it is- you'd be seen more as a humanitarian than anything else...! You should definitely get it... | ||

Guys, Here are a few of the reasons why my wife is against the "Ferrari" vanity plate: 1. We don't need to flaunt our good fortune. 2. In case someone doesn't know what kind of car it is, we don't need to advertise that it is a Ferrari. 3. I sometimes speed around our neighborhood so she doesn't want a plate that is easy to read and report to the police. 4. Our neighbors still don't know we own a Ferrari. They think it is a Mustang because of the horse. The less they know the better. 5. Lastly, we had a bad experience about 10 years ago when we lived in Los Angeles. We had something that was expensive and some "bad" people found out about it and wanted it. If it hadn't been for our police department who at the time aggressively enforced "profiling" it could have been a real nasty situation. | ||

I don't quite understand your wife's aversion. On a subtler or more 'normal' car, I can understand completely. I very much prefer DMV-assigned plates on such cars. Vanity plates on flashier cars (provided they're not silly plates like '2COOL4U' or something) are acceptable - and owning something rare like 'FERRARI' would be absolutely brilliant. Ask your wife if she'd like to be in the car's first photo shoot. :D A plate is cheap - why not register it, show it to her, and then if she disagrees, simply give it up. At least you can take a few pictures. ;) --Dan | ||

One of the main reasons to get married is for assistance with pressing decisions such as these. Oh, is the plate too vain? To those who judge at face value, perhaps it is. Although no more so than the car it's to be mounted on, I suppose. It might be that the car speaks for itself just fine w/out the aid of a vanity plate. Although "FIAT" might make for a more understated message if you're still shopping personalized plates. Or, as Ken suggested, take the "Ferrari" plate and sell it. | ||

In my humble opinion, the "Ferrari" plate is not too vain. However, working as a team with your wife may be the bigger picture. Selling the plate for $10K could be a nice first "team" project. You could always get a plate that says "Toyota" . Happy new year to all our co-members. | ||

I have the opportunity to get a license plate that reads "Ferrari". My wife says "NO WAY". She is against it for many reasons. I'm kind of torn both ways. What do you guys think? |
