Simple fix for windows that don't roll all the way up: The problem is partly from friction. Spray the window felts with silicone spray. Do this every 6 months, and you'll have no problem. And way easier than all the other listed ways to correct this....Windows will still be slow, but at least close. |

I'm running an 83 GTBQV as well. What versions of the manuals should I be looking for? I've seen parts manuals for 79, 82, 84 but not for '83. I've seen shop manuals for similiar years, but not for 83s. The ones I have don't seem to match the actual car very well. Even the dealer's parts manual seems to be a mismatch. Also, besides e-bay, where can I pick up copies? Thanks |

Brian,Excellent.... Remember keep it simple,(try re-ground with a jumper 10 to 12 guage)on window motor,horn..... n while your at it run a new ground straight to the wiper motor. It will make it considerably faster,FERRARI is an excellent choice but they did cut corners in the electrical dept...P.S. try a little Vaseline on the end of a Q-Tip right smack in the window channels top of door to roof...It is IMPERITAVE that you have a copy of repair and a parts manuel, these cars are pretty basic n simple to work on...JUST ADHERE TO PREVENTIVE MAINTAINENCE N HAVE A BLAST........ |

Brian 4 musts for you now: Cell phone, AAA Delux membership (100 mile tow plan) and alway bring your Pusher on long drives (no, not a drug dealer, the person who is going to help push the car off the road) and 4: FIRE EXTINGUSHIER 308 windows don't seem to go up all the way if seal on top is worn, otherwise the window cable needs adjustment(mine did); horn not a biggie, cleaning contacts got mine working; if you push door locks down with door open they stop working, try closing doors and using key to lock/unlock doors a few times, if that doesn't work disconnect/reconnect battery, they will come back. Drove mine from Colorado to Las Vegas and back with no issues, fun trip! Might as well replace the fuse boxes now, mine were fine for the first 8 months after I bought the car but they did eventually get to point where they needed replacing. I had intermittant problems related to the fuse box, such as sudden loss to the fuel pump, intermitant power loss to fuel injection (cold start valve, thermo sw etc.)which created drivability issue on and off. I can tell you this though, when it runs right it is the best running car I ever owned! |

Congradulations, the 308 is a great car! Take it on the trip, it was meant to be driven. I drove my 348 from Miami to Atlanta with an old friend. It took us all day but we had a blast. These cars can be quite dependable if you maintain them properly. I've only had mine since July of last year and have already put 9k miles on it with no major problems. Enjoy the car!

Drive, drive, drive. Spend a rainy Saturday tearing into the door panels and looking over the fuses. Most of the items you mentioned shouldn't cost much. Most importantly, you'll get to know your 308. Congrats! |

Congratulations! I just got a 308 and I love it. It has some things I need to work on, but nothing keeping me from driving it. I'll get to them when I can. This is a great place to learn, I read new info all the time. Enjoy it!

Brian- Congrats on the new purchase. I agree with you, the car should be quite dependable and you should get years of wonderful ownership. Let us address a few of your concerns: Windows- these are fairly easy to understand. Once you remove the door panel, examine the routing of the cable that operates the windows. I took a picture of mine. Operate the motor and observe. Usually it is a problem with either the window tracks, (easily greasable), or the motor gears are gummed up. A fairly straight forward fix. There are many posts here on this. Check them out in the archives. Horn, Check the fuse. If it isn't the fuse usually you just need to oil the horn air pump- no big deal. Worst case go to auto zone and buy a new pump. Thats what I did. Works perfect. Passenger door lock. With the door panel removed, this one will be easy. Just take a look. All the linkage is exposed. Get yourself a shop manual, read it. Post the group here, and search the archives. You'll find lots of answers from a large pool of knowledge. I wouldn't let any of these minor annoyances stop me from driving the car and having fun! Get out there, drive it and DON'T BABY IT! Welcome to the club. Jeff |

Brian congrats and good luck. I find there are 2 levels of problems with these cars. One is : don't work right but drivable and the other is : broken ,can't drive. I find that I love to drive the car so much that I put off the minor type problems and the ones that you NEED to fix makes me nuts until I fix it. Net is you have the 1st set of problems so GO DRIVE IT and you'll love it. |

Brian, all those things can and should work... they do on my '84 308/QV (48,000 miles), though the windows *are* slow. Congrats on your new baby! You'll love it. |

Congrats and welcome to the board, give it a complete service so you know what's done and when it needs to be done again. btw,did you get a PPI? it's a Ferrari so repairs are usually not cheap, but a lot of the things you mentioned can be fixed at home from what i have learned here. anyways, good luck and Happy Motoring! Congratulations Brian. Hey don't feel bad the windows in my 348 are slow and have to be helped up. My drivers door can only be locked from the outside, and the passenger side only from the inside. My horn doesn't work either. In other words join the club bro, all Ferrari's have problems even the "brand new" ones. As far as a site for 308 owners, you are on it! This is "THE" site for Ferrari owners, from 308's to 330's. Rob has the best site on the web, period. |

Brian, I have taken my car a a couple of 1000 mile trips. Just check it over before any trip like any other car. If your belts are due soon, I'd leave it at home. M |

Congradulations, First off I would check the fuses to make sure they are the right amps. Second I would check the relays. That usually will fix these types of problems. Matt |

Sunday, I bought an '83 308 GTSI QV with 59,000 miles on it. I have always had a passion for Ferrari's. And, you only live once. There are a few things wrong with it. Like, the windows don't roll all the way up...the horn doesn't work...the passenger door lock doesn't go down. Minor things that I hope won't be too expensive to fix. Will they? I know from reading all of your chats that this is a dependable model, and that I can take it on fun trips. But how confident are you with taking a 308 on a 1,000 mile roundtrip vacation somewhere? Thanks for all of your help. This website is great. Are there any other websites good for 308 owners? Thanks. |
