Nebula,

A SHIAT for a Fiat? I love it!! Another one I thought of for the 348 Spyder was JALOPY (sarcastic of course). SPYDRMN and SPIDRMN are my favorites so far. I hope they are available in Illinois.

I just reserved and paid for 2 plates. I will put one on my 87 Mondial Cab and the other I will probably just hold onto since my Honda and Isuzu don't really fit the image of these plates.

I would be interested in everyone's thoughts about which to use on the Ferrari.

1. MAKNN IT

I used to have this one but let it go about 5 years ago, now I am getting it back).

2. RONS BBY

What do you think? P.S. these are California plates.

If i ever own a new bently, or any other new car that costs significantly over 200k (or whatever todays equiv. is with inflation.) i want to get "I MADEIT" but people on the road might not agree with that. i'll never own such an expensive car though, as i can just buy them used and let you guys take the depriciation hit :-)!

BCNUL8R--saw on VW bug in Calif.

XULDV8--saw on El Camino in South Beach Miami

T1HS ON--I used to have this plate on my M3; State of Texas made me give it back, since it appeared in Car & Driver as a 10 Best License Plate, & someone figured it out (hint: read it backwards). However, I only gave them one plate back, claiming that the other came off on the road. I still have the other one in my garage!

Being a big Simpsons fan, I love "DOH". I just dont think many people will get it. I have seen VIPREATR on a F40 in an issue of Road & Track - a F40 will eat a Viper, but my Spyder will not (However, IMO, the Spyder is more fun!).

I live in the western suburbs of Chicago. If my plate letter/number combination is wrong,, please let me know.

Thanks.

I had F348 on my ex-348 Spider. A friend of mine has 4re on his Mondial. I have applied for Boxer or BB512i for my Boxer but don't know if it will be approved yet.

DES, isn't that on Tim's F40?

Also, I think NY is the first state to allow 8. A lot still use 6.

Dan, that's weird, i don't know if we're allowed to have special characters on our plates, over here... i believe we're only permitted alphanumeric characters- but up to 8...

Sweet idea about turning the digits around, making it look like a standard issue plate... i like the subtlety in that...

Hey, Patel, you could also do what J.D.'s considering and get a plate that reads: FERRARI (but not if you two live in the same state, that would be kinda foul if you took it, before he made his decision... :-))

One of my favorites for an exotic plate: VIPREATR...

Well, I like DES' suggestion, but turned around. 4RE 348 - it looks like a standard issue plate unless you know otherwise.

--Dan

I just read the rules - why so strange? On CA vanity plates, it's 7 characters or numbers in any mix, in which you are allowed to have one special character (heart, star, check, hand, +) should you choose.

Dan, congratulations on your new Ferrari- you've got quite a collection of cars already...! i bet the Ferrari stands out amongst them all...

It seems weird that you can only have 7 digits- i figured when it came to personalized plates, the rules were the same in every state; here in NY, you can have up to 8... All plates are the same size, so why you can only have 7 makes no sense to me... You had some good ideas as to which ones were available to you, that you've thought of (i especially like the IRS reference...)
How about "348 4RE"...? Ok, i'm no good at this... Let us know what you come up with...

I promised myself not to get custom or vanity plates until I got a Ferrari. Now that I have one (a red 348 Spyder), I am not sure if I want one. Any better ideas out there than the ones I have listed below?

MY FRS LV (My first love) I am not sure why, but the wife is not happy about this one.
Y WAIT (Why wait? What I asked my wife when she asked why I wanted one now)
LO TEC BZ (Low tech business) I am not a dot.comer
A RIT OFF (A write-off) Am I asking for IRS trouble?

BTW, in Illinois we can have 7 letters, or 6 letters followed 1 number, or 4 letters followed by 2 numbers, etc. If I cant decide I will have to keep the standard random DMV issued plates.

Thanks to all.
