Nice Dave, also very nice to offer it to the owner of the car. Prove that F-Chat works.

We have a Daytona Owner here in Florida. Captain for TWA. He had a yellow Daytona in the mid 80s, and sold his car in the late 80s for top Dollar, when the market was really hot. Mainly because he was leaving the country for 5 years. He always loved his Daytona and when he came back he was still dreaming about his car. So he started to look for another. His car sold to a collector (also here on F-Chat) in Florida then to New York so it was out of sight when he decided to get another one.
Through lots of looking he found a yellow Daytona advertised one day. Calls up and askes questions. In the conversation the seller tells him the story of the car and he is thinking "this sounds familiar". You guessed it. It was his car.
So he bought the car for like $ 70K, sold it for like $ 200K and now bought it back fully restored for $ 100K or something. Loves it and drives it. Probably will never part with her again!

Dave, excellent story. The best story I have is my friend Paul and I were at Watkins Glen this past Labor Day for an FOC weekend at the track. Saturday evening, there was a Ferrari car show downtown in Corning.

Well, there was this Silver 308GTSi/QV so I went to look at it. I leaned over to look at the S/N...48343...mine is 48345. That car was the exact one in front of mine back in late 83 / early 84 on the assembly line!

Cool story Dave.

Through a chance posting here at FC, I discovered the original owner of my car...

Dave, that's an awesome story... bittersweet, though, that the other fellow couldn't hold on to his Ferrari...

Tim, stop raining on Dave's parade. :-)

Thats a cool story. what were the odds.
I've got one for you. In Rome my parents saw people they knew from my home town of about 6500 people. never would have recognized them, it was my sister that spotted them. neither family knew that the other was there. What are the odds of that?!

I have been meaning to post this for a while.
A few months ago, I was getting into my 328 when a man approached me telling me how he used to have one "just like that". I was skeptical at first, but after some conversation, it was clear he had. Anyway, he related a number of stories about his car and how he lost his job and could not sell it, so sold it in an auction in Phoenix about 2 years ago. After a while, I said I had to go and then he asked me if I knew anyone who would buy the tools and books from the car, since he still had them. I asked him why they didn't go with the car and his answer was that he just wanted to keep something as a souvenier. I told him I might buy them and got his number so I could set up a time to meet. A few days later, I called and he quoted me a very friendly price for all the stuff, so I agreed to meet him. As it turned out the jack, tools, and books were all complete and mint, so I bought them with an eye towards resale, perhaps ebay.
When I got the stuff home, I discovered in the books that the car was indeed a GTB (I assumed it was a GTS). Also had the warranty book with VIN# (76518) and original sale and owner info. I have been collecting vin #'s for 328 GTB's for about 5 years, so I checked to see if I already had it. I did and the source was a poster on Ferrari chat. A quick search of the archives revealed the current owner as Fchatter Vince Porto. I figured he had already aquired most of the stuff, but would be nice to reunite the original warranty book with the proper car. Vince replied right away and was very excited the stuff had turned up. The dealer who sold him the car kept promising books and records but after a few months the dealer folded and that was that. He knew the car had been from my area but could only get a record for an oil change at Ferrari of Denver. Vince and I quickly agreed to a friendly price and now all the stuff is back with the correct car. After exchanging info, it was pretty clear this car was actually a repo and the auction was by a bank.
Anyway, with an estimated 125 328 GTB's in the US, the odds of this chance meeting and reunification are very long, indeed.
Hope you all enjoyed the story.

Dave
