I just got a call from a guy in Calif that read my post and knows of a coupe for 50K. I am having my buddy check it out. |

I think that that is the same car that was in my friends shop for about 10 years. Belonged to a guy named Lee and it is a cut top coupe. This is exactly the kind of thing that I am talking about. I was told that the car sold for around 100K. The car was offered to me many times over the past seven years. During that time he put 15K into the paint, 22K into the trans, 3K in exhaust, 5K in upholstery, and about 25K into the motor. He had about another 10K in mechanical work. If the car sold for 100K as I was told, he would have been better off selling the thing for 50K and not restoring it. It is cheaper to buy a restoration, but it is better not to do the restoration. I have the luxury of not having to pay anyone to restore the car. The only thing I cannot do is the seats. |

I for one would take a cut coupe over a coupe in a Daytona. If I could pay less, then so much the better. By the same token however, if I had a coupe, I'd never get it cut myself. |

I am pretty sure a good coupe goes in the low 100s - either way I don't think this is a prime example |

Yeah Tom it is a conversion. But is cutting the top off enoungh to make the car worth lees than a good original coupe? |

Looking around Mike Sheehan's site I found this Daytona who's price seems too good to be true at $129K. I know its missing a few details like rear side markers to match the front U.S. turn signals and Daytona seats. But why is this car selling at a 60% discount to the real thing (When in a way it sort of is)? |

I heard he had found a way to chrome leather & carpeting before he went to jail and was having his entire Interior Chrome Plated with the Stolen Money, next he planned to chrome his house I think..lol. Man whatta guy...spend it like you stole it!!! Wonder why they throw such nice guys in prison?

Mel is in prison for all that I know. I think that he got ten years. He was a really nice guy and very generous. Man did he throw some good parties! I remember one year at Elkhart he fed me lobster for lunch when everyone else was eating brats. His mechanic Tom was a really good guy. Back to the Daytona, networking is the way to find these cars. That's how I got my F40 and my 65 Shelby Mustang. There are always cars to be had right, just have to be patient. Looking to buy in about 5-6 months as soon as my shop is completed and thought I would start now. My target price range is 50K to 75K. |

Look guys, I'm not looking to steal the thing, but I know that there are cars out there that need transaxles, motors, or other expensive work. Sometimes after owning these cars for years, you just don't want to do that $20,000 trans or engine rebuild. I want to get something that I can go through the whole thing, and in the process, become familiar with the car. I missed the Spillman Datona because his lawyer bought it from the county and Ferraris on Line got the rest of the cars. I'm not looking for that kind of a deal. Anyone that owns a Daytona probably knows someone with a car that I described. |

Looking for a Daytona Coupe project. Would prefer a car that needs total resto but will consider whatever is out there. Post your finds, thanks! |
