Tom, you must have enormous self control... i would've been running down the street, screaming and flailing my arms, chasing the cars... (i guess this is why "the forces" keep me from going on such trips... :-))

Des,

I think it's a trick of the light, but you're right, the rear window does appear to have more of a curve. Unfortunately all the Enzos we saw were in motion and it was hard to pick up details. There is also the fact that these cars may not have been in final production form so there might have been subtle differences.

We saw two others being tested along the Abatone Road. We were returning from Florence in a rented Fiat Diesel (I can see why Fiat is in trouble; what a terrible car!). But again, they were moving in the opposite direction at great speed for public roads. I guess if you're testing a new Ferrari the police look the other way (or just applaud).

DES, no problem. Sometime wisdom is great. Thinking of this 2001 grigio ingrid/tan 550 with only 1600 miles. The guy had to buy a 996tt to fit his height (550 is too short for him).

i got home, today and, as i'm trying to unwind for the night, i walked by the shelf where my Enzo is... i'm looking at it and thinking about Tom's pictures and i can't fathom what it must be like to see this thing in person... i mean, look at it...! it's gorgeous... the shapes, the lines, the curves, the presence it holds... i just stood there, not moving- and it's just a toy...!

Tom, i was looking at your pictures again and- it could just be the angle, but the rear window on the yellow Enzo looks like it has more of an arc to it- is it just me or is that true...? That would seem a bit weird to me, if it were true, but it DOES look a little different... Anyone...?

Had a F-40 in for service - License: PANACIA

Great place, they let you walk around parts and service like you own the place...love it.

BTW - The 2003 Cavallino Classic is January 21-26 in Palm Beach...I never got the memo.

Will be first to come and last to leave.

Doc, i know what you mean... i won't reach beyond my means, especially not with a car- there are too many avenues to set back. i'll do what's financial comfortable for me- however if lotto-type money comes rolling in, i'm running...! Let us know how things go with the Maranello...

Frank, thank you. & that money thing sounds pretty neat...

DES - I read your post yesterday but did not have time to chime in. The last paragraph is great, when I first read it I was thinking it was your statement attached to the police report as to why your body was glued to a showroom window at midnight and the police needed further explanationWell done!

Seems like anytime I buy something, when I get it home, it isnt the same..you know? Somehow that TV looked bigger in the showroom than it does in my living room, or you buy a piece of furniture that looks great in the store, get it home, it doesnt look the same somehow..

Well, I got my 355 Spider not long ago and I cant describe the joy of this car! It has meet and exceed all my expectations. Each drive gets better and better. Way better than my 911 Turbo - the car feels more balanced, revs up like theres no end, the engine sings and the car almost smiles when you drive her. Drop the top and people gawk like you can not believe. Its 3:00 am and I was in the garage just staring at the beauty of this vehicle.

I know this thread started on the 360 but just wanted to throw out my $.02...

Chris - the money thing My parents are from Europe and lived in several countries before coming to the US. I remember when I was very young my father selling one of his cars and he put a silver dollar in the trunk. The tradition is to hide some money as a sign of good fortune and let the new owner find it unexpectedly. I think the lira was left symbolically to perpetuate that tradition.

DES,

The baby can't run at first. It has to crawl at the beginning, then walk, then run :-)

It took me many years until I got my 360, my first car was 1971 Fiat 125!!!

I know my next one will be a Maranello. I am still waiting for the right car. Still want to keep my 911 which I traded my Boxster for this car 3 years ago.

Doc, it doesn't seem like you're picking on me, i'm not sure how you see that... a Boxster is still way out of my league... when the time is right, when i'm meant to have one, i will own a true sports car... (a Boxster might be easier to test drive, though... :-))

Tim, i can't explain it and you'll probably think i'm crazy, but my Sentra loves me. There is a soul in that car- a living spirit of some sort and she loves me. If i try to explain, it's just gonna make me look crazy, but seriously, my car and i have a bond.

Its a car. it cant love you back. it can bring hours of enjoyment (especvially when you are doing burnouts in it wearing down daddy's tiers that you dont have to pay for...). People make them, and other makes of cars out to be more than they should be.

Tim we know its technically a car. Your post of one sentence seems rather negative to me. Fcar owners dont spend their money on "a car"
they spend it on a ferrari
I hope you can appreciate the difference.

I hate this whole "its just a car" anagaly. Its getting rather tedius.

Tom, i know exactly what it feels like to recall a sound in your head and still be able to hear it, perfectly- you're a very lucky guy... even luckier, though, you got to see 2 Enzos & got pictures... that's just awesome...

Luckier still, though... you have a wife who's as excited about them as you, it seems... "Camera! Camera!"- that's just so cool.

Thanks for the short story, i have images in my head now, on heavy rotation... :-)

Des,
I completely empathize with you. While we were in Maranello this past summer my wife and I walked down by the Scuderia. We could hear something running on Fiorano and wanted to see. While we were peering through the security gates my wife shouted "Camera! Camera!" Just then the gates started to open and a yellow Enzo started to pull out of them. It was beautiful. Until you see this car in the flesh, don't judge it by photos. As I raised the camera, the driver actually stopped, just briefly enough to get a shot.
I think I didn't start breathing again for several minutes. I also got a shot of the tail as it drove away.

BTW, another Enzo was being tested and we spent a good half an hour watching from the side gate as it tore, and I mean tore, around Fiorano. I can still hear it!

Kevin- i've sat in a 360 and a Testarossa- the 360 seemed a little stiff and the Testarossa seemed more geared towards suiting me, but i can easily adjust... Performance and speed permitting, the 360 is for me... Next will be a Diablo, after that, the order of the list is pretty loose... i need to feel a 360, though... that's my next step... i'm kinda scared, though, to be completely honest... i think my expectations might be slightly higher than what the 360 can produce... it's received mixed reviews on here and that gives me the jitters... There's nothing worse than being let down by something you hold in such high a regard.

DES,

When I was working on a design project with Cauley Ferrari's help I had to make a number of trips to the dealer. A friend of mine was helping me build the model so I let him come along one of the times. His first sight was a red 360 spyder in the showroom. I almost had to make him wait in the car because I didn't think he could handle it. But instead I told him to sit in the black 550 and he'd be alright. They let him sit in the 550, and you know what?-- he did feel a lot better. He took the 550, 360s, 512M, and the other 20 cars right in stride. I was proud.

Moral: Just sit in a 550 and you'll feel all better. :-)

Yeah I keep it in the car. My car was very complete when I bought it with everything you get from the factory including the flashlight, manuals, tools, 2 covers, window sticker, etc. I was wondering if the currency also came from the factory or was put there by the previous owner. I was responding to Greg's comment:
"I rode in a red spyder that still had the factory plastic on the seats and some Italian Lire in the rear part of the center console."

It is the first time I had heard another reference of Italian currency in the car. Does anyone know why people do this?

10,000 lira is about $5 USD. But from what I understand, they don't use lira anymore.

When I got my car it had a 10,000 lira bill in the console, does anyone know why? Tradition? I always assumed it was left by the previous owner as some sort of good luck or superstition. I have left it there though.

You know what, Tim, in an accident, or if someone's life is at stake or whatever, i agree- a car is just a car...

...but not this one. Uh uh, no way, definitely not... Look at it...! These cars are gorgeous... They speak to me... She smiles at me everytime i go there... i was meant to be in the cockpit of a Ferrari...

Ok, i just got back... (well, i didn't JUST get back, i got back, had dinner and watched a movie)...
She's unbelievable... i need to go there during the day, when they're open, i have to touch her... i look through the window and i swear that car has titanium-colored flesh on it, there's no way metal could be that smooth, with those curves, looking that beautiful... i was in awe...

For those of you who own one, do you ever really get over it...? Do you get up in the middle of the night and go down to the garage, just to take a peek...? Do you have photos of her in your wallet...? A picture of her on your mantle...? How do you function outside of her...? How do you function when you can't see her...? How do you do it...?

DES...my Ferrari experience has been a rapid one in the last 2 years. Believe it or not, until I was 33, I had never had the opportunity to ride in a Ferrari, though I've been an admirer since I was 8 years old. Never in the right spot at the right time. Well, In April of 2001, I finally got my chance.

At the time, I did not know the 360 Spyder had just been released. I rode in a red spyder that still had the factory plastic on the seats and some Italian Lire in the rear part of the center console. The car as a spyder is amazingly fast and tight. With a good driver (mine was a REALLY GOOD test driver), there is an aluminum plate in the passenger footwell...it is there for a reason!!

Well, on the following weekend, FCA was at the track (I worked as a corner worker on weekends) and on the last day, got to ride in a Testarosa, 308, 348, 355, 355 Challenge, 328, and a 456.

5 months later, I bought my 308QV. It's been an awesome experience.

Extrodoranirily well put, bravo!

If I had a nickel for every hour I've spent drooling on the glass at Ferrari of SF, I'd, well, I'd have an F355 Spyder by now! :D)

Best!

Emotions. Everyone has them. Some people just show them more than others. Each one of mine is different, but my happiness emotion is the most unique of all. It's rarely seen. It's layed dorman most of my life, flickering only slight signs of life, every once in a while.

i think my happiness emotion is a little village of tiny people inside me. Let me tell you why...

i just got back from Bentley of Long Island and, if you can recall, not too long ago, they replaced the red 360 in the window with a blue F355. It was a bittersweet time for me, because although the 355 is nice, i missed my red 360. Tonight i went by there, expecting to see the Testarossas with the snow on them, the boring Bentleys and a few other high-end cars, along with the 355 in the window. Much to my surprise, the 355 was gone... as i was pulling in, i saw something silver. What is that, what could it be...? BOOM...! It was a titanium Ferrari 360 Spyder...! Holy , i've never seen such beauty in a car, before...! There is a huge difference between a 360 Modena and a 360 Spyder...

i tried to approach the situation calmly. i pulled up to the gate, where all the other cars are and checked out the Testarossas for a minute. i could see what appears to be a yellow 360, way in the back, but i can only see a partial, shadowy silhouetted profile of the bumper with that signature 360 headlight, so i'm still not sure. Then, i turned and made my way towards the front. The front where the window is. The window where the two Bentleys and the spyder is... and there she was. All those little people in that village inside me that is my happiness emotion jumped and danced and sang and rejoiced as my exterior showed nothing. It was quiet outside; a little after midnight, all you could hear was a few cars in the distance, but inside me was loud, celebratory music. Feelings screaming and shouting with what can only be DEScribed as joy. My eyes caressed her through the window and my mind fondled thoughts of what it must be like to be inside her. She was sheer beauty, through and through. i must've stood there for 5 minutes, just taking in all she had to offer. You could hear the sound of metal twisting as a smile pushed its way onto my face. i was happy. i'm in love.
