Brian, thanks for all those links. Conecam looks very interesting (the cam not the mounts).

Used to buy from Adorama a LONG time ago. Worked fine, very prompt.

For those of us without rollbars or separate headrests, there appears to be five suction options:

Hague - strong single suction cup; fairly flexible camera positioning (approx $100)

Bogen - strong single suction cup; maximum flexibility for camera position; additional support rod that you can run to the floor for added stability; $110 w/shipping from B&H (www.bhphotovideo.com) and $96 w/shipping from Adorama

Cullmann - single suction cup; minimal camera flexibility (only 90'?); $40

ConeCam - three soft suction cups; maybe half as strong, but arguably less likely for total suction failure with camcorder loads; moderate camera position flexibility; $40 from ConeCam (www.conecam.com)

Hama - low-profile, single suction cup; sturdy-looking platform that seems fairly flexible; about $100

Anybody know of others?

I am thinking of going with the Bogen for the added stability AND the ability to position it
on my back glass effectively. I have experience with B&H... anybody have experience with Adorama (www.adorama.com)???

Peter

I bought the single suction mount, it arrived the day after ordering, however it may take a few more days to get to you

355 needed a new windscreen which I thought at first wasn;t too expensive at $600 odd dollars but then you need a new frame and then the labour and tax!

I've not used the suction cap on anything other than hte screen and it hasn't left any scratches etc. Not usre I'd want to mount my camera outside the car just in case it get's hit by a stone or falls off although the suction is very strong

Call B&H Photo 800-947-09927... they are in NY and are the largest supplier for Pro Video Equp.

Tell them what you want to do because you have a number of options, including a wide angle flex lens that cops use...

I think the web is www.bhphotovideo.com

Alternatively buy yourself a bullet camera and leave the camera itself in a bag on the seat, in the footwell or in the boot...

If you have analogue inputs to your video camera you can attach one of these and then mount it more or less anywhere with suitable tape.

The B-Hague mounts are superb (Manfrotto Superclamp is the one I used to use) but the bullet cam gives so many more possibilities.

Yet to use it on the 355 (gets used on the 7 all the time) but will do so soon...

You can get bullet cams from www.rfconcepts.co.uk or no doubt from many places in the US (though when I searched the net not many came up).

Byron, I ran across a few sites selling roll bar mounts. Just go to www.google.com and search for camera-mount. b-hague has them as well.

What about roll-bar mounts for digital video cameras? Where does one find something like that?

Mark,

Man, that's a lot of $$$ for a crack.

Which mount did you buy from b-hague?
How stable was the mount at high speeds?
Did it take long for you to receive your mount after placing the order?
Any mark or damage to the surface where the suction pad was placed?

I am thinking of placing an order with them this week for a headrest mount, a suction mount (maybe double suction), and a clamp mount.

Depending on what you are looking for, you can get a cheap conecam (conecam.com) or something a bit more high end, I offer - its four cameras - VERY small, toggle switch to go between the cameras which have various mounting options, and it hooks into your camcorder/DV cam. It aint cheap though!

Peter, I also got (but never used it so far) a mount, that fits over the door edge, so you can shoot alongside the car. Not as sturdy as the other options, but an interesting camera angle.

I don't have roll bar, so I guess I have to use suction types or the headrest type.

Can't remember anything in the instructions!, I left it facing the sun in the pitlane at Imola, air temp was around 32 degrees C and the suction cap is a nice shade of sun soaking black, insurers picked up the approx $2,400 bill...gulp

I used the suction mount on the window for just this purpose (on a 348, 355 and TR). Works great. The I/O Port Racing is terrific if you have some round bar to mount it too as the roll bar in a monoposto. Used that one of Formula cars, also great results.
The fact that you're using a DV cam helps bigtime as they don't have much size/weight and so damping and vibrations aren't a big issue.

Do a search for "I/O Port Racing". This one is roll cage mounted though, but might be workable otherwise.

Mark, ouch! Did the instructions warn about prolonged window mounting under direct sunlight? Did you have to replace the entire window?

I am no scientist, but does vacuum + prolonged direct sunlight = cracked window and $$$ repair bill?

I know they are in the UK but they do a very good mount that fits on the Headrest stalks. I have one of their screen suction mounts and it works really well, however a word or warning, I left it on the screen in direct sunlight for an hour or so and came back ot a cracked screen form the centre of the pad to the edge

I am thinking about putting a DV cam inside my Ferraris when driving. Where can I find the proper camera mounts? Thanks!
