Saw my 328 GTS on e-bay, but did not get involved in the bidding process as it is my guess that more than half are deadbeat bidders. I asked a million questions and ended up flying out to Utah for a day to see it and drive it...the transaction went somoothly. I would highly recommend seeing the car in person before buying, as one owners idea of "mint" condition often varies from another!

No but I bought mine on EBAY. I called, asked lots of questions, called the mechanic, drove eight hours, rented a trailer, inspected, test drove, handed them a cashiers check, drove through a blinding snowstorm and brought Lil Dino home. FOA inspected, changed the oil and sent me home. The sellers were a little snippy but I got a good value IMHO. |

I sold my 1999 about a year ago and got a few dumb emails, but ended up meeting a nice guy from California who came out inspected my car on a Wednesday and had it shipped out on a Friday. I'd definately use ebay again. They attract such a huge audience. |

Out of the 9 cars I have sold on Ebay, 7 were Ferraris and 2 were Alfas. Four of them were purchased during the Ebay's auction process (ie. B.I.N. or exceeded the reserve) Five of the cars were purchased after the auction ended without success. All of the above went VERY VERY smoothly, and actually some very good friendships came out of it. There was only one instance where a bidder hit the reserve and did not consummate the deal. Ebay refunded my listing fee and the bidder received a warning letter. The only person who did not e-mail or call with questions was the guy who did not follow through.

I have my wife's minivan up for sale on eBay right now... it amazes me how people can bid without asking questions or emails??? I must write trustworthy descriptions! I'll know by next week whether this ends up being a good experience or a bad one. Martin, you don't have a buyer for my wife's minivan, do you? "Cavallino Minivans"? As mentioned below, eBay probably generates good leads for F sales.

send me some info on your car I may have a buyer. Yes, sold on eBay but in my case the buyer asked tons of questions and the deal usually closes outside of eBay.

I sold an 81 GTBi for a friend (on ebay)and it went fairly smoothly, also a 96 S600, a $100,000 motorcoach and currently a "orion" stereo van. It sucked to get negative feedback when the motorcoach buyer drove the thing 3 states with the jake brake on and smoked the engine. (classic button pusher...hmm I wonder what this switch does?...) |

I have sold Harleys, a Lexus, and a MBZ SL500 on ebay. The guy bid $60K on the SL, it was in the dealership at the time, he called my service advisor to ask questions about the car, I faxed him a copy of the title and an invoice and he wired me the $60K. He then had a trasportation company pick it up from me, I only spoke to him once after the auction closed, the rest was via email (he did not email before the auction ended). I have had similar experiences with the other vehicles that were $10-20K I have not sold a ferrari on Ebay, you just have to keep your fingers crossed and hope he comes through, if not I would just list it again and hope you find a real buyer. |

Great question.I bet the answer remains NO. How can you buy such "touchy" cars sight unseen. No real legal recourse to collect from high bidder. Just a place to advertise. I see very few fcars ever reach reserve anyway. |

Jay, I didn't know Chris Sawyerr was into real estate these days! Put me down for 100 acres in the Taurus Litro region or the Frau Maro highlands. I hear the Sea of Tranquility neighborhood has already gone downhill. |

They already have that Arlie. You can buy 100 acres on the moon and get a title dead for it. I sold a car on ebay for $10K US sight unseen (not a Ferrari) and it went smooth as butter, no problems. I guess it all depends on who is bidding, but I agree use it as cheap advertising. |

Is it normal to bid on a $140,000 item sight unseen? According to the rules, if you win the bid on an E-Bay item, it's pretty much an obligation to complete the deal. But how can anybody in their right mind agree to pay the winning price when they haven't even examined the EXPENSIVE item in person? What next, LUNAR real estate speculation?

Has anybody ever sold a ferrari on e-bay?or bought one? I tried to sell my 360 about a month ago and the buyer never showed up. Is that normal? Is it normal to bit on a 140 000 item without calling or write 50 e-mails full of questions? I am trying again this week, see what happens. |
