There is a new book that was recently highlighted in Forza. It is called "Enzo Ferrari" by Richard Williams. It supposedly provides a good account of Enzo's life. You might try that as an additional resource.

I would be surprised that if you typed "Enzo Ferrari" into Google.com, that you wouldn't find reams of articles on the man... |

Oh yeah, all racing Ferraris are red because red is the official Italian racing color. That's why all early Maseratis, Alfas, Lancias and Ferraris are red. |

Well, Ferrari started racing his own modified Alfa Romeos in the early years. Then after the war (WW2) he started his own company, Scuderia Ferrari. Scuderia is an Italian word for Horse stables or horse racing team. The prancing horse was the insignia of an Italian fighter pilot who was shot down during the war. Legend has it that the mother of the killed pilot asked Enzo to use the prancing horse to honor her dead son. I believe that the condition with Alfa was that he had to wait 2 years before he could begin making cars under his own name. From 1947 to 1952 Ferrari used Vignale and Ghia to body the cars and then the relationship with Batista "pinin" Farina developed. On a side note Sergio Farina officially changed the last name to pininfarina. The first road going car designed by Pininfarina was the 212 Inter convertible in 1952. Enzo himself was married but had a mistress who bore him his son Piero, who now holds the family share of the company. He also had a son Dino who tragically died. Enzo first named the race car and then the road going cars after him. He really had an interesting life, but really too much to stuff into 7 min. Hope this helps some. |
