Well, then, Tyler, it's a little easier for me to trust you... But being a libertarian is still being political... You should join my anti-political party... i'm an Anarcharian... :-)

Horsefly,
How about 200 members contribute $10,000 each, so that some of us don't have to wait 40 years for our weekend! 10K to spend a week with an Enzo once every 4 years...what the hell.

Rob

I've got more useless numbers.

The raffle idea is great. But with a 6.178% turn out for the calenders sold to member count, you may wish to wait until there are a little over 16,180 members before an idea like this could survive.
If you don't want to wait that long, magazine promotion could be a good way to attract non F-chat members who may eventually become members. Another risk would be to committing to a model ahead of time and hoping to sell enough tickets to cover it's cost.

Tyler, you must be a republican:-); fewer numbers means higher prices per participant, which in turns weeds out the poor folk... Now i have to start a separate pool with the low-incomes just so we can participate as one person, only getting a fraction of driving time, compared to the rest...
Goddamn politics...

I'd be up for a few tickets for a raffle. Seriously, if you run the business model so it's similar to a fractional plane ownership program we could make an Enzo work. We would have to trim the number of participants down to a few though to make it more feasible.

HorseFly,
Not a bad idea but the money we would make selling it 3-5years from now may not be worth it. We may be better off investing that $1000 in the market and get a better return..Even in this crappy market. Stocks are low but are projected to rise between now and 2yrs..
I say we drive that puppy...:-)

I think that my "long term storage for later profit" idea is better. You wouldn't have to pay much for insurance that way. Have you guys read about the brand new Chrysler that was purchased in 1957 and buried in a concrete vault by an entire town? I can't remember the website that tells all about it. I think the plan is to dig up the car in 2007 and pull one name out of the jar that is stored inside the car. The winning name gets to keep the 50 year old but "brand new" Chrysler.

Um... not that i wanna think about the down side of things, but...

Who's insurance do we put this under, first of all...? No insurance company in the world would ensure an Enzo under my name, so i'm out... Secondly, What happens if the third guy getting to drive it, totals it...? What does everyone else do about their lost investment and what does the guy whose insurance the car is under, do with a claim like that...?
Also, how do we get it from one person to the next...? Who pays for those shipping charges, or will we just drive it from person to person...?
Lastly... what if it doesn't have a cup holder...?

I'VE CREATED A MONSTER! Why not just take the combined funds, buy the Enzo, put it in permanent storage and pay the storage fees with the leftover money. Then, at some time in the future when the market is red hot, we drag out the Enzo, sell it at auction for big profit, and divide the profit by 2000 to all the original investors. We could also use some of the initial fund money to start a continuous subliminal marketing campaign throughout the collector car world to hype up Ferraris and the Enzo in general until the market is like a bunch of starving sharks. Then unload the Enzo for big bucks!

Hey Rob,
How about for logistics purposes we keep it regional? For example, have a Northeast region that would have its own Ferrari timeshare. Although the "share price" would either have to be higher to likely afford say, a 355, or the car would have to be less expensive ($60K for a 348?).

Then usage of the car could be maximized across the same region. Mileage and time restrictions would apply somewhat like the corporate jet model. This also eliminates a lot of the cost of transporters, etc.

If 95 people in PA, NY, NJ, DE pitched in $1000 apiece, we could get a kickin F355 for $95,000 all in. Then an annual maintenance fee of a little over $100 a head would cover $10,000 of annual upkeep on the beast. And this would give each owner 3 solid days (3.8 technically) per year with the car.

Part of my job is workforce management (scheduling 400+ people) so I would be happy to put some logisitcs together. Now we need an attorney to throw some documents together.

For all you future owners out there, this could be a dream come true. I would glady put $1000+ for 3 days each year in a late model F-car.

I AM SERIOUS. THINK ABOUT IT.

Forget the raffel.. I love the Idea of all of us owning it.. We can each get 3 days in an ENZO for less than what it would cost us to rent a Testarossa of F355 per day..
After we all get our turn (you damage, you fix) we sell it and get some or most of our $$ back and have a story to tell friends and family..

Damn I'm Good!!!!

Rob, you can put me down for at least one ticket, guaranteed...

& let's say you only sell 125 $100 raffle tickets, that $12,500... Before you start the raffle, let everyone know that if that should be the dismal outcome of the raffle, a Ferrari will obviously not be in the runnings for the winner... Have secondary raffle prizes if that's the case... Just a thought...

I think too many bad experiences with what's his name. Although if you can't trust me, then who else could you trust on the board. 1,000 $100 tickets for a 355 or 456? Target $10-20k profit for FerrariChat.com. Keep the board free for when I decide to do FC full time. I would rather do a raffle than charge $9.95 per year a user. This always ticks users off when talking about making money from FerrariChat.com. Although Ed is gone now. ;) Seriously, you wouldn't believe the spirit and value I could add to FerrariChat.com if it was my full time job.

What worries me about the raffle is we could only sell 125 calendars and they were only $22.95 and pretty cool at that. How in the heck can we sell 1,000 $100 raffle tickets. Who would buy one, who would buy multiple?

Tino, on the corvette forum, how much are the raffle tickets, what is the max number they sell per car, and what is the car value?

I have come close to getting a corporate membership at Motorsports Ranch CC for FerrariChat.com. That would allow those visiting DFW to run the track. Who doesn't pass through DFW every so often? We could even get part ownership in a 355 C or something and store it at the track. Users could schedule when they wanted to come in, go to MSR, and drive the heck out of the car. What if we blow an engine? $25k divided by 25 people = $1,000 a head. Sounds like a management nightmare for me. Might just get one myself and let user's "borrow" it.

On a more serious note, why not a raffle ? Corvette Forum has 4 Corvettes being raffled right now. Rob, how about a raffle for a slow-moving, 'in stock" F car (456, 575) or even a used 355 ??

Hey now we seem to be getting a little personal here. I have a yellow 355 and love the color. And let's face it how many more red Ferrari's can the world take? And at one point with so many red Ferrari's we will run out of the color red. We must all band together and fight the against "Red's" future possibility of extinction. P.S. count me in on the Enzo

The wait is too long for my turn. Hmm...I think I do have an alternative to get really close to the Enzo.

A friend of mine said he was allocated rights to buy 2 Enzos and he sold one of the rights to some UK guy for about US$100,000 I think. I think I will just wait till he takes delivery and see if I can get a chance to ride in it.

"DES will no doubt want to HOG his share of the car(s) and we may never get his car back."

Arlie, what kind of crap is that to say...? There shouldn't be any doubt in your mind that no one will ever see the car again...!:-) What is this "we may never" crap...? There's not a chance in hell if you put those keys in my hands that any of you would ever see that car again...! (i just need someone to teach me how to drive F1, first... :-))

i'm game for this and yes, of course i'd drive a yellow Ferrari, what the hell is wrong with you...? i'd drive a rainbow-colored Ferrari- wouldn't you if it were an Enzo...?

& what is all this "me first" crap, PSk...? It's automatic that i should go first, 'cause um... well, uh... just because...!

& if you don't mind, i'd like to rearrange this whole plan: just give me half the money- let me waltz up in there with only 1 million dollars and a bat, and we'll have ourselves (read: i'll have myself) a brand spankin' new Ferrari Enzo...!

Sound good...? :-)

I want to be first!!!, plus I want also to go with Rob and enjoy the buying experience :-) :-)

Okay how are we going to sort out the order, as I do not want my turn after the previous guy stuffed it into a bank.

Otherwise I think it is a great idea ... infact why don't I just buy it, and you guys can rent it for a day for $1000 (I'll have to work on the insurance deal, and bank loan) but not a bad deal to end up with an Enzo after 5 and a half years ... okay it will have a few km's on it, but any car I buy always suffers from that problem.

David, there is a wild card in all of this. DES will no doubt want to HOG his share of the car(s) and we may never get his car back. We should allow for that. And will anybody besides NIKA want to drive a yellow Ferrari?

OK Arlie

7 F40s at about $285Kish each(they are fully depreciated wouldn't you say?)

1 day to drive every 9 monts and 6 days.

11 mile daily limit (4,015 annual milage).

In 5 years, 5 months and 23 days eveyone will have had at least one ride.

Each car will accumulate 21,978 miles.

If the 2000 members on Ferrarichat were to contribute $1000 each into a fund within the next few days, we could have $2,000,000 in our mutual account. We could then have Rob walk up to the Ferrari display at the Detroit or LA show, and just ask them HOW MUCH to take the red Enzo home TODAY? No bull, no double talk. Just CASH on the barrelhead, hand me the keys and the title because MONEY TALKS, and we at Ferrarichat let our cash do the talking for us because we have the backing of all our members and we don't want to be put on a waiting list. Then Rob could drive away in the Enzo, and all 2000 list members would own 1/2000th share of the Enzo. We could pass it around the country from weekend to weekend and let the next guy pass it on down the line. And each guy could PARTY with some of the leftover cash in the account each weekend. Sounds like a plan to me. Who's ready to party?
