I am not sure about the classifieds. I would not pay for them. There is just so much out there where you can post for free and the sales do not really work here. Still not enough people on this site to make it work. Sorry Rob, I am dead honest. I think you should have a great possibility to ofset cost with commercial advertisers. Nicks is working, red4racing and Ameristar Capital.I think they have more traffic than before FerrariChat. You can use that for more advertisers. Once you have more users you will be able to think about the classifieds and charging them. |

man, I aint sayin! =D to be honest, I can't really think of the names at the moment, cause I wasted away my college years doing the same - the MUD/talker time was a toned down break from the wasted years of IRC - and believe me WASTED years. Now, just the boards and IM'ing, but really what would be the next phase in five years to come? hmmmm. I dont even want to know. |

Thanks everyone for your ideas and opinions. Randy, what MUD were you on, I did 3 Kingdoms for a few wasted years in college. |

one other idea that I would mention, I am doing this currently with www.nsxsc.com - I donated a set of Porterfield R4S pads to the site in exchange for advertisement for bulletproofautmotive.com - I even supply the shipping as well. If I thought I could offer products for Ferraris such as wheels (although they would be HRE or similar higher end / custom made to order wheels), I would definately persue the same or similar venture on ferrarichat.com by donating a set of brake pads for a particular Ferrari. Rob would then be able to do as he wishes with those pads. On the NSX site, Bill is raffling them off, and using that money to support the site. |

my opinion would be the following: any sales would be fee based to post anything for sale or any thing that you would advertise on this site as a 'sale' or any kind of promotions for a business relating to Ferrari's or automotive-related. A few models would consist of sponsor-only advertising, or even a sponsor + fee based, where the fee would be a % of a total sale of a particular purchase. For instance, if you were to sell an item for X amount of dollars, a 2% fee would be charged to list it here. Not bad, only 2 bucks, right? But it will add up. I'm not one to want another email address, so I'll pass on that idea. Shirts - very cool idea, as would be stickers, magnets and the sort for track events. online chat functionality - easy to build into a site, but not sure I'd use it. I'm an old IRC/MUD/MUSH/MOO geek and on the webboards, I find the traffic on 'chat' functionality to be lacking as well as functionality. banner space - and more banner placement. typical banners are 468x60 or half of that, which is 234x30 - a few other 150x150's exist and some other sizes as well. Dealerships or part suppliers would pay an $x fee a month to maintain this in a particular area or a particular rotating basis. The current ad in the top-left corner in the left frame, overhangs a bit on my browser with my current (default) browser settings, pushing the left frame to be wider than it is, which makes it scroll to the left and right - one option would be to make this site without frames, and include a top menu or left menu to navigate through the same functions that lie in the left frame. (just an idea) The rotating banner, scriped in Java, takes a bit of time for me to load this page, other than that, its lightning quick, but its definatley a bottleneck. (sorry a bit off topic, but might as well put it here) Okay, I rambled a bit too much but willing to contribute and help out in anyway as I've expressed to Rob personally before in matters of dev time and sponsorship fees. |

You would have to sell a lot of shirts at cost to make a profit. A flaming fee would work for me. |

Here are a few of my ideas helping with FerrariChat.com costs. Let me know what you think about them, be honest... everything from they suck to cool, I might be interested in that. 1) Classified ads page. Nice index with links to individual page for each ad. $20 for 3 month ad. 2) Personlized e-mail addressess. You can have a customized email address linked to your current email address. Your username can be anything you want and the last part could be... @ferrarichat.com, @tifosichat.com, @ferraricommunity.com, @ferrariforums.com, and other possibilities. $10 a year. 3) Online store front for group buys and anything and everything Ferrari. If this site had good deals for Ferrari stuff, would you be interested? 4) FerrariChat.com polo shirts at cost? 5) Free online chat functionality? |
