Wasn't that a Pagani Zonda on the Amazing Race II?

If I had been in that situation I would have INSISTED on driving that rocket myself!

Heck, what's all that talk about Lambos when you can pilot that car (as an alternative to F)!

Adam, You might want to mention that being Pagani is the new kid on the block should bring them more than the usual TV coverage for the first few races. Good Luck !

Jon,

I'd love to come back north, at least to VIR. Paul has his engine back and I believe he is in the process of getting the subframe back into the car. I spoke with Glen at Daytona back in November and he was looking forward to having that weekend to work with Paul.

Sponsoring a waste? Motorsport can be a bargain.

What's your products or services market? Household incomes in the stratosphere, well educated, well connected, cash to invest, companies to network, clients to entertain?

Ferrari Challenge is a very small niche, but has benefits.

IMHO

According to Autosport the cost of sponsoring all motorsports has come way down even F1. There are probably several reasons for this but it isn't a great sign.

I'd say unless a F shop is promoting itself, it is a bit wasteful. And even that is doubtful to get much of a response.

Jon is on the money about money to run 360 Challenge. $250K for new chassis, $250K for maintenance, preparation, testing. Does not include major crash damage.

I ran three cars in 2000.

I wish FNA would organize like in Europe, Shell Ferrari Challenge that welcomes all: vintage, 308, 328, 348 Challenge, 355 Challenge and 360. Private team preparation is allowed.

FYI, FNA is bringing Maserati Trofeo here next year, 2004. I received this information direct from Maserati. I beleive it will be lease deal with self-contained preparation by FNA. Truly arrive and drive.

Greg,

Likewise! Nice to hear from you. Are you coming back north for some track events this year? How's Paul P.'s engine coming along? Last I head he had it shipped to Glen at Washington Motorsports.

Regards,

Jon

Kevin you are welcome to a ride at the FOW event. I may only do one day so email me about a week or so before hand as I will know then which day. The FOW event is probably your last chance for a ride this season as my wife and I are expecting a child in June and that will end my race/track season until at least late fall.

Regards,

Jon

Jon,
I would love to ride in that beast of yours at the spring FoW track event. Joseph (355 from Chambersburg) said it was the real deal.

Can you hook me up?

The Challenge series was in serious trouble last year as the field of cars dropped from 60 some cars in 2001 and two race groups to only 18 cars at the midpoint of last season.

Indy has been dropped because Tony George never liked the CHallenge series running there and he made it prohibitively expensive to run the cars at Indy. There were only 20 cars in the field at Indy and FNA had to beg some folks to bring their cars out that were not even running in the series at the time to make a full field.

There was talk at the end of last season of folding the series. Ferrari of Washington ran 8 cars in 2001 but only had one signed up for 2002 and had to team up with Algar who also only had one car at season's start.

The costs are nuts. People in 2001 were bringing backup cars. At the Glen in 2001 a Championship contender wrecked his car in practice, wrecked his backup in qualifying and then tried to buy another competitors car for the race so he wouldn't loose points. Who can afforf to spend 600K on cars for one race weekend.

The general concensus is that 500K was needed to run at the front (assuming you had any talent). This included the car. For that money you can race in Grand Am with real racers or run a budget Formula Atlantic season.

The level of talent in the Challenge series doesn't warrant that kind of dough! Peterson and Gralia who both ran away with the series are backmarkers in Grand Am and ALMS.

Martin,

Homestead was dropped this past year as well. :-(
Perhaps they should change it to a Ferrari-Lamborghini event. Now that would be fabs.

They also dropped some of the last year races off the callender since the series championship was decided.

What they need is to run the series in co-share events. Bring more publicity to the event. Heck I don't get any info on when the series runs here in Miami. That has to be better promoted. I know a ton of people that would love to go down to Homestead and watch the races in the grandstands.

Bad management if you ask me.

The # of people participating has dropped. Two years ago at VIR (355C & 360C races) there were tons of cars. Last year it dropped. You notice the same thing at track events. Terrorism, uncertainty, and the economy have forced many who were not "old money" to back off participating in such expensive recreation like the series.

well, last year they introduced also a shortened series commitment from the different teams -- you could chose to do the whole series, or do just THREE of the races. My suspicion is that the costs are getting too high for most people and interest is waning somewhat so this wouldn't surprise me.

I noticed that the US Ferrari Challenge Schedule contains far fewer events that the 2002 schedule. Does anyone know of the reason or is it to early in 2003 for the full calendar. Specifically, I noticed that Road Atlanta and Virginia International Raceway were gone.
