actually on second thought, I bet the 46trim would be too large. I guess it depends on what kind of power you wanted to make, and where. |

I dont think 550 horse would be easy to make out of a 348 motor. ;) i dont think you could use a compressor wheel much larger than a k24/ or maybe a small to4e (46 mm maybe). other wise you'd have to spin the hell out of it. I dont think you could safely make more than 400 horse without lowering compression. you wouldn't need to use moTec though. I'd love to have the opportunity to convert a 348 to forced induction. I"m working on a sentra right now. I guess you have to start somewhere |

Justin, Two words- "Turbo Chargers"! Norwood can turbo charge the car and at only about 5lbs boost, you'll make about 400hp. Add Motec engine management, (to loose those pesky troublesome ECU's), add intercoolers, and bump the boost to about 15lbs, and make about 550hp! Yahooo! |

Jeff, How can you get over 360 BHP out of the 348 engine. I have 360 BHP out of my 348 Spider. IT would be nice with 400 BHP. |

Good article, Justin. I enjoyed the read. IMHO Norwood is a superior tuner, (nomex on). If you ever get the chance, visit the shop. The upgrade work done there is of very high quality. His, (James Patterson's), cars make BIG horsepower. Exterior appearence varies according to the customers' request. Suspension upgrades are most likely also avialable. I've driven only one of his creations. It was so impressive, I bought it. |

348 GT Competizione & Competizione LM From mid 1993, it became possible to purchase a competition spec 348 prepared by Ferrari's highly favoured development experts, Michelotto. They were suitable for several prominent GT events including Le Mans, Daytona and Sebring, as well as the BPR GT Championship and IMSA. Just eleven of these Competizione's were built by Michelotto, the most famous of which were chassis's 84248 and 96064, most others going straight to collectors who never raced them. 84248 was the ex-Oscar Laurrari, Italian Supercar GT Group 2 championship winning car run by the well-known Jolly Club outfit. 348 GT Competizione 96064, meanwhile, will be familiar to American enthusiasts as the ex-Steve and Tom Shelton, Didier Theys and Art Coia Jr entry from 1994's Daytona 24 Hours, this car run by the Shelton brothers Fort Lauderdale-based team. Michelotto fitted hot 360bhp engines with reconfigured fuel mapping and F40 halfshafts to all Competizione's while changes to the bodywork included a lightweight aluminium front lid and engine cover, a Lexan rear window and carbon fibre reinforced stress points. Meanwhile, carbon composite was also used for the doors, bumpers and undertray, supplementary ducts feeding cool air to the rear brakes. The brakes themselves were uprated 15-inch cross-drilled Brembo discs, wider Speedline five-spoke magnesium wheels being shod with slick Goodyear tyres. Michelotto uprated the suspension with fully adjustable Koni dampers and anti dive geometry while there were also strengthening gussets around the engine bay and a custom FIA roll cage plumbed in. Cockpits were completely stripped out and fitted with OMP race seats although, somewhat curiously, electric windows were sometimes retained. Michelotto produced only eleven of these 348 GT Competizione's of which, we believe, only two were ever used in serious competition. All their chassis numbers are listed below. Meanwhile, the little Padova-outfit also built a pair of very special racers, using the GT Competizione as the basis for a crack GT3 machine. Suitable for use in the 1994 BPR GT Championship but built specifically for Le Mans, they were supplied to Ferrari Club's Italia and Spain and featured wider and lighter five spoke Speedline wheels, sliding Lexan side windows and faired-in headlights. Most obvious though, were the Competizione LM's fully adjustable rear wings while their engines were even hotter again. They were available in three stages of tune, Evoluzione I, II or III, the first two of which produced 380bhp and 405bhp respectively. However, this was running with mandatory air restrictors in place so, without, 400bhp and 430bhp would have been possible. The full house Evolution 3 powerplant was totally unrestricted and pumped out a mighty 460bhp although it never ran in competition. Only two examples of the 348 GT Competizione LM were produced by Michelotto, the chassis numbers of which are listed below: 348 GT Competizione LM chassis 97553 348 GT Competizione Chassis Index 84248 1993, supplied new in February to the Jolly Club, '93 Italian GT Championship, scored class victories at Mugello, Imola, Monza, Vallelunga, Misano, Pergusa and Binetto! 1994 class victories at Mugello, Varano, Misano, Binetto and Vallelunga. 95380 1993, believed never to have raced. 96064 1993, supplied to the Shelton brothers, Fort Lauderdale, in October. 1994 Daytona 24 Hours 16th (8th in class), LM style headlight set up. 96547 1993, believed never to have raced. 97296 1993, believed never to have raced. 97933 1993, believed never to have raced. 98226 1994, believed never to have raced. 98367 1994, believed never to have raced. 98676 1994, believed never to have raced. 99107 1994, believed never to have raced. 99143 1994, believed never to have raced. 348 GT Competizione LM Chassis Index 97553 1994, supplied new in April through Ferrari Import Espanola to Ferrari Club Spain, Evolution 1 engine, Jarama 4 Hours 6th (2nd in GT3), Le Mans 24 Hours 11th (4th in GT3), Vallelunga 4 Hours 12th (6th in GT3) 98997 1994, supplied new in April to Ferrari Club Italia, Evolution 1 engine, Le Mans 24 Hours (DNF), Spa Francorchamps 5th (2nd in GT3), Vallelunga 6 Hours 6h (3rd in GT3), subsequently fitted with Evolution 2 motor VISIT WEBSITE FOR FURTHER DETAILS WWW.QV500.COM
