Just checked coolant level and seems to be about 3cms below the cap, is this too much to allow for expansion at high speeds ? |

Craig, I drove my 90 348ts to 160 on a N. Georgia interstate, it handled it just fine. The tach was showing 6500 rpm, water temp about 180, oil temp about the same, and the car held the road great. It appeared as though the car would go faster but my mind got the best of me after about 2 min so I had to get out of it. Let me tell you that is very fast on the ground. I am use to going a lot faster in airplanes but on the ground it's a whole other ball game, what a rush. Good luck and enjoy the ride! |

Craig, Like I stated in my previous post, maximum listed on the sidewall, not the door jamb, cold pressure. In some Ferrari Owner's Manuals, high speed pressures are actually printed. You're gonna put a lot of heat in these black things. |

Thanks for your help guys. There will be speed timing equipment there. The car is in good condition all over and has good tyres. Am running standard 348 wheels with Pirelli P Zero tyres, should I run them at higher than normal pressure then ? |

New brake fluid. Don't forget to brake. If you run out of landing stirp at 175Mph you are toast!

Roof on, helmet on, seatbelts on. You'll top out at around 175 +/-. The factory speedometer has inaccuracies at high speed so you might want to consider electronic timing borrowed from a car club that does autocross events. Tire condition and pressure is CRITICAL. Adjust to maximum pressure rating listed on the sidewall while the tire is at ambient temperature. You're going to place a huge load on the tires, engine and trans. The car will take it no problem if your it is in good condition. I would definitely put it up in the air and check every nut and bolt, especially the suspension mounting forks. Pressure test the cooling system overnight to 20 psi to check for leaks. Cheap insurance is a high pressure radiator cap. Blowing a coolant hose at 150 mph is not fun. Recent wheel alignment and balance might be advisable. If alignment is off it could even lower your top speed. Give yourself room to slow. I tested just like this a few years ago in a 308 GT race car. We did it at night when the airport was closed, 12,000 foot runway and taxiway. No lights on the racecar or gauges! I had to judge distance via the runway side marker lights and shift by ear. The airport supervisor strongly suggested I slow down by the yellow lights and stop no later than the end of the red ones as there was no more pavement. The car was geared for only 145 though, we were just shaking it down. It was like driving into outer space. What a rush! |

check the tires for screws, nails, cuts, lumps etc. check nothing is leaking in front of the rear wheels that could cause a spin. then of course check oil, coolant, brake fluid. You'll go faster with the roof on cus of aerodynamic drag If you want you can have all the suspension parts X rayed for cracks |

Have the possibility of using an airfield here in the uk. It has a 2 mile straight. my questions are: 1) do I need to do any prep to the car ie oil/water/tyre pressures etc 2) Anyone maxed out a 348 GTS? I wondered how fast is feasible. 3) roof on or roof off ;) |
