I think if my goal were to be a race team engineer, FSAE would be at the top of my list in picking a school. Go to the sae site and look at the results, there are a few schools that always come out on top. Pick one of them, that's where you'll learn the most. They win year after year because someone on the staff knows a thing or two about racing. Experience is key in any field. I would also recommend that you get the scca schedule and get to the track where races similar to what you like are being run. Most of the guys are friendly and dont have enough help on race day, see if you can hook up with one or 2 of them helping out. I think that would teach you a lot about racing and whether or not you really like it. If you do decide to pursue it, well youve got a couple years experience, and that will make a difference in opening doors. Also, networking at the track will help you know which doors to knock on and may get you an introduction or 2, which means your interviewing for a job no one else even knows exists and coming with a recommendation. I part time job in a speed shop might help too. |

Luke, I am an aerospace engineer and though I never worked in the race industry, I have friends that got involved with the SAE formula race cars while at school and that helped them alot. I have noticed that Toyota Racing Development (TRD) is faily consistent with ads seeking engineers. |

Luke, Email me again when you have a chance, I'll get back to you next week. School doesn't matter as long as it's ABET. SAE matters as you know already, but its not critical, just makes it easier. Aerospace makes you stand out in a crowd of ME's. Mark can insight on this, too. |
