Justin, perhaps you meant 15mm spacers all around? The 150mm you quoted is almost 6 inches out at each wheel!

Justin,
Nice looking wheels!
I am currently running the same tire size as a 355. Pirelli Rosso Assimetrico 225/40/18 front and 265/40/18 rear. No spacers with the Speedlines.
Lowered, the car requires a bit of additional caution. Speed bumps are a challange. Enter and exit steep ramps at an angle or not at all. My garage is at basement level, driveway ramps down. Cannot pull in forward, have to back in or the spoiler scrapes. My problem is increased by the "Speciale" spoiler.
All that said I love the look and feel. Well worth a bit of extra caution.
If I remember tonight, I will measure from the floor to the highest point on my wheel arch, front and rear, to determine if the car is lowered and by how much. Will need measurement from a stock spider to verify.

John.

I have a 348 Spider 1994. Its got 18" rims on it from MOMO Racing. The rims run with 225/40/18 on the front and 275/35/18 on the rear with 150mm spacers all round. What size tyres to you run with ?
I have a friend that has lowered his 348 TB with same wheel/Tyre sizes as me. The problem he has is that he cannot drive over any speed bumps and unable to get the car on ramp properly. I am not sure what to do about lowering it. The car looks great lowered, its looks even wider at the rear.

Reiner, you have your motion ratios incorrect.

Oh, and if anyone wants better track handling, I can revalve your Bilstein shock OEM on the cars as long as the top of the shock body is not the crimped style, if it is, I can get new shocks and modify those. Privately email if interested, please.

Hi Chris,

I ran 348 Challenge cars for a living, you can lower them with the factory set-up to the point of undrivable on anything other than a smooth race track. When you or your chosen shop lowers the car, either find a shop or someone with corner weight scales, or, be careful to lower each side the same amount of turns, i.e. 10 turns down in rear, 7 turns down in front. This keeps your cross weight as set by the factory. Also, you will require camber and toe to be reset as lowering affects these settings.

If you want to calculate the number of turns yeilds how much lower, the motion ratio is 0.70 in front, and 0.85 rear. The pitch of the threads on the shock absorber is 1.5 mm.

So, ten turns down in the rear is 15 mm at the spring collar, which translates to 17.6 mm at the chassis. Want to lower an inch overall, keep the rake the same? Front down 12 turns, rear down 14 turns.

If the car has never been lowered before, there will be undercoating on the treads, clean first with solvent, try WD40. There is a locking collar, too. You can get the proper tools to fit the lower spring perch at an industrial supply place like McMaster-Carr. Or hack away with a screwdriver like too many racers do.

Next week I can get the part numbers off my perch tools if anyone wants them.

Have fun.

Chris,

adjusting an inch at the shock coil threads
will give you two inches riding height
change. But remember, you will need a
re-alignment after doing this.

Chris,
Yes, Speedline 18" Alesio(sp?) modular wheels. One of the major reason I purchased this 348.

My understanding is the springs are stock. The adjustment is in the spring perches.

John,

It does look lower... are those 18's?

Did he adjust the stock springs or replace them?

Thanks

Chris,
The prior owner said my 348 spider was lowered 1". Does appear lower than stock but I have not verified the amount.
Poor quality pic in my profile for reference.

Chris,

I believe you should be able to adjust
your shocks to the desired ride height.
If you want to go much lower than the
minimum configuration, I don't see how
you would manage to drive the car on normal
roads?

What springs are available to lower a 348 spider.

Anything at a reasonable price?

Thanks,

Chris
