Chris: This is clearly an attempt to defraud you. The manager knows that they dented the car, the brushed paint is evidence of concealment. You need to go directly to the owner: tell him what happened. I'd get it fixed at another shop since you can't trust these people, and I'd go after them for the loss of use, the loss of release value, and I'd tell the local newspaper about your suit. That will provide them with the appropriate level of publicity to ensure that who ever was responsible for this gets fired or worse. Art |

It is a sad thing, taking your car for touchup, paying for it, and then realizing that someone didn't do the job right or messed your car up..it has happened to me, and I consider that a lesson learned...I swallow the pain, and never ever go back to that shop again...never recommend them, actually do my best to pass bad reviews on them. If you own Ferraris, you should know by now that those working on them, be they Ferrari shops (dealers) or body shops, think that you have plenty of money, and this is not their car, it is yours...they will mess you up, unintentionally most of the time and charge you up the ying yang...grin, bear it and go on. Better still, when I have a ding or scratch, I just leave it there...it doesn't hurt as much as getting screwed...well, that is two cents worth |

The Doc has a good idea here. Here's another: Just agree with the shop owner, have him fix it. Pay whatever he asks with a check. Cancel the check when the car is back home. If there's going to be a law suit, let HIM file it. Gather your "evidence" and be ready. If you do this: You have the car. It is fixed. It is free. He bears the expense of a law suit. Disclaimers: I am not your attourney. This is deemed to be FRIENDLY ADVICE- NOT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE. Just another avenue to consider. Best of luck. |

In my experience BBB is useless.Go to the owner, keep your cool.Tell him the story and mention altho you didn't mention the name of the shop on the FERRARICHAT you certainly will if not fixed to your satisfaction. This will get his attention imo. |

Chris, I would be cool and get them to fix the car. If they continue to refuse, get more aggressive and contact the local BBB or threaten to do so. They will probably concede to fixing it rather than take the bad report to the BBB. I have the same problem with the Pontiac dealer where I took my old car. They back a SnapOn tool box into the door and left a big dent and took off some paint. I had to get a little loud with them, but the came around and fixed it. |

I would think if this damage was there when I droped off the car... don't you think he would have mentioned it or called me when he did.... I also asked him at the drop off to touch up a few small nicks and showed them to him... This was no small nick that he then touched up. Chris |

Lawsuit vs. Fixing the car. Just fix it. Whats wrong with pleasing the customer? Every high-end car that gets done at my shop gets a walk-a-round with the customer. I make my job to point out existing damage; I also use a digital camera & a logbook to journal anything at all like scratches, dents, broken parts, etc.. All shops should at least use this method. Good luck. |

F-car owners know their cars. Complain to the owner of the store. If he backs down, threaten a lawsuit. Why? Well, the value of your car can drop significantly based on the fact that it has been repainted. Keep in mind that there are a LOT of skeptical buyers, and the minute they see "repainted," they automatically think "salvage title." Trust me, I've sold the cars for a living, and you can't begin to guess how many deals I have lost due to the fact that a car had been repainted. |

youch! Best to at least start off cool and controlled. Any recent pix of the car? Not that it will ease the current issue, but a comment to the service manager as you drop off the car gaining acknowledgement that there is no damage might help in the future. Good luck |

If it was there when you dropped the car, he must've noticed it- if he noticed it, it's extra cash in his pocket if he fixes it- so why didn't he call you and ask you if you wanted that fixed, as well...? i say he's bullshitting you and i don't see any problem with you continuing to yell... You're not too far from me, so if you want me to go down there with a- ah, never mind... Let us know how it turns out... |

Took my car for service the other day at a local place that services ferraris. I asked them to touch up a few little paint chips.... Well I just took my car out today from the garage and noticed a large dent in the passenger rear lower fender. A large piece of it had paint missing that they brushed over. Between the amount of paint missing and the size of the dent I would have noticed this on the car in my garage before the service. Of course the manager is claiming it was there when I droped it off and is telling me to speak to the owner after I yelled at him. How would you guys handle this? |
