Regarding the valve guide comment, the dealer repairs should be reviewed to see if any guides were replaced. This is more involved than just changing valves, and was likely not done. Unless you can find a record of them measuring and qualifying the guides, consider them questionable.

JRV....I agree with your assesment of the Ferrari used market place. In this instance, it would be impossible to lower the mileage, as state inspections have been done. But tell me that false odometer readings are not rampant in the Ferrari world. I mean....there were simple connectors that had to be disconnected in order to disable the odometer/speedometer!! I trust the wholesaler/reseller market as much as I would trust buying a car from some of the flamers we have on our site!

The 48K Miles is nothing on these cars (IMO Far More Have Far More M's than on the Odo) if they've been maintained. However, FUGETABOUT resell value, average guy is scared and wants Low Mileage car.. The $80K sounds way to high to me. My guess is they'll wholesale it ($50-$60) to a broker somewhere (read one of their buddies)and it will show up somewhere with 25K miles on it.

Conclusion-MO- 48K miles wouldn't phase me on well maintained/serviced/repaired car--$80K for 48K mile car about $10-$20 Grand to much.

If they aren't puuling your leg the service they did on the car is worth at least $10k. You mean a 512TR not a 512BB correct ? The suspension bushings may be worn out & the AC may need to be recharged, shocoks may be worn too if they have never been replaced but it sounds like a very good deal

Hi all,

If I may open a thread....Ferrari of San Fransicsco/ Mill Valley has taken a trade-in. Red/ Black interior.

48,000 (forty eight thousand miles) second owner since 1995.

Well, story is while at the dealership, owner started his car at idle and it immediately made a bad noise. Cam belt broke. Was replaced at 30K but date unknown by me at this hour.

So owner traded in on a 550 and dealer rebuild top end (all new valves they say), one piston and gave another 30K service.

I do not know all the specific of the top end rebuild, tensioners water-pump or what was done below...such as all the piston rings or just one piston..period.

I can get the serial # within a few days.

I can not find much in the search on TRs with 50K mileage. One rumor is that the boxer 12s need valve guides at 60K. This car would be fresh...dealer is describing to me that the 512 as a new motor. With its current mileage, I will start by saying I would hope it is well sorted electrically. The suspension bushings, shocks, air conditioning, etc. what is the consenus on their shape at this mileage if OEM.

I welcome all thoughts on this car, with the bottomline being moving forward with a PPI.
