I noticed that the F40 at the auction has the Ferrari of Seattle placard in the license plate holder. It might be the same car I saw a couple of years ago (just before I ordered my 360). It's too bad it hasn't been driven much after leaving Seattle. The limited edition cars will hold their value. But I would not consider them, or any car, as investments. Just drive them and enjoy. |

I ran into Reggie Jackson on New Years eve in Vegas and spoke with him for a few minutes. He said he wanted $410,000 for his 276 mi. F40. As an F40 owner myself, I said hang tough and lets keep the F40 prices as strong as possible. He also said he was going to buy another F40 with miles on it and "drive it". Nebula, go with the F40 if adrenaline is at all a factor! The other 2 cannot come close. |

3 F40's in this link. Prices are 320K-325K$. one of the cars has 16K miles and had the 15K service done but the price is not given. FYI http://www.biline.dk/dennigcars.org/is/engelsk/searchresults.asp?model={485EB6D4-CD42-11D5-8E7E-444553540000} it's better to copy and paste the address in your browser otherwise it's not working (at least in my PC) |

I saw the F40 on Barret Jackson today, too. Reggie has his reserve set too high. I think the car has 800 miles or so? Completely amazing that a non-Hemi Cuda went for $135k because Don Johnson owned it, and a genuine F40 with under 1k miles didn't go for more than 320k while having Reggie Jackson as the PO.

Alan IMHO all of this is cooling off. It's like the stock market. It's come down but many stocks are still expensive (S&P adverage P/E 36) I think we'll see lower prices for many things in the days to come. The flip side is that that is often the time to buy when everyone else is giving up. I don't think we're there yet but I think we'll get there before too long... |

I just watched Reggie Jacksons pristine F40, i believe it was a 1992 no-sale at Barret Jackson for 320,000. |

I was recently offered my choice of (3) F50's for <$600k, one was in front of me at the time the dealer offered it to me. The delaer said they have dropped about 1/4 of their value in the last six months (can you say ENZO?). Somehow I didn't open my wallet, I know I'll never see them again at that price.... -Ben |

Some recent data from Sports Car Market sell (not asking) Prise Guide. The F40 is at 275-375 down 5% from 2002 after rising 6% from 2001. The F50 is at 650-750 no chg from 2002 ater rising 14% from 2001. The 288GTO is at 225-375 down 17% from 2002 after no chg from 2001. I think all three would be OK "investments" if thats what your after but you better not drive them much. It would be like having a beautiful and playfull Italian mistress you don't touch, just look at! so whats the point IMHO. |

Wade, we've already exchanged emails! Small world! Found the 1990 on a Google search.... Matt, may be a fat chance, but a chance none the less! There are a lot of people that make a lot of money quickly, buy lots of cool toys, then lose the money even quicker than they made it! I've seen an F50 in search of a quick buyer for 200k under the retail price. I know a guy who had a brand new GTS Viper that he sold for 35k when his Dot comm crashed. The car was maybe two months old. Bought a late 90's 456 for 70k once from a guy who needed quick cash. They are out there, you just gotta look around. |

Hey Nebula, 1987 to 1989 the F-40 was only in Europe You can not use 10k miles becasue that is pretty extreme for that car and they must be service because that is about $10k also track time is extremely important. 2 weeks ago I sold a 1990 F-40 with 325 miles on it with service for $372,000.00 and the buyer was very pleased. 1990 F-40 under 2500 miles anywhere from $315 to $375 1991 F-40 about the same 1992 F-40 is slightly higher because it is the last year I have a very nice 91 F-40 for sale it has 772 miles and has never been on the track the car is service and has the original tire with date stamps on them, this car also has the ride adjustment for the sake of this forum the car will go for $355,000.00 Wade www.fortunemotors.com info and pictures at request |

"I'd like to find a 288 for 250-275 (unrealistic, I know) or an F40 for 200-225. " Why up to 275 for a GTO (fat chance) and only up to 225 for a F40? (also fat chance) These limited car, 288 even more so, will not dip to those prices anytime soon

I'm trying to find a car that has been on the market for a while. I'd like to find a 288 for 250-275 (unrealistic, I know) or an F40 for 200-225. Dealers are usually able to hold onto a car for however long it takes to sell. I dout I could get these GTOs for the price I'm looking for. |

That thing has been there for over a year. I think the asking price of $325k is a little high. If i remember correctly, it is very low milage. |

I've seen some of the early F40's who's fit and finish is poor to say the least, right from the factory. I would also say the GTO is the investment car, but who's selling one? The F40 is the pure excitement driving car, the F50 doesn't do anything for me. So I would say if you want a driver and still keep your money when it is time to sell go for the F40. |

agreed on the investment into the bottomed out stock market. hint - don't do anything in the tech sector now. ha! In regards to the value of each of the three cars - I would guess the GTO would hold its value the most, well over the others. The GTO only had a production of what... 272, or 273 depending on who you get the info from. The F40 production numbers arearound 1311, and the F50's production numbers are around 349 or a few more than that. So simply coming from production numbers - the 288 GTO will hold its value the most. Mainly due to the fact the # of ones still running out there are slimmer (assumption here!) than what was actually produced. |

LOL, wnt a great 10 year investment ? drop $250 into the stock market now & it may be worth near $1M in 10 years since the market is in the basement now. As for the cars, well you can find a high miles F40 for around $275 or so |

If i remember correctly the F40 wast introduced in the States before 1990. I dont think the price will vary from one year to another. What is important is the mileage ( road and track ). But as you will see most are garage queen and are only now enjoying a life a Ferrari deserves. I would say 300 000$ is the bottom price for a car with less than 10 000 miles. And it can go up to 350/375k$ for one with very low mileage , a virtually new car.IMO you should look for a F40 with air con and if possible the electronically adjustable suspension that alters the ride height ( so you dont scrap the car ). I think all 3 ( GTO/F40/F50 ) will hold their value well in a 10/15 years term if you dont put 100 000 miles on them of course. If you want an investment only Ferrari ( One that you wont use ), the GTO would be the one to go for. They are rarer than the other two. My 2 cents ! |

Can someone give me the price breakdown for a low mileage (under 10k) F40 from 1987 - 1992? I would actually need two price figures from each year. First would be the retail price, and the second would be a reasonable fire-sale price. Essentially, I'm trying to find out what the retail price for each year is, and what I could expect to pay if I found a VERY motivated seller. Also, what are the desired years for this car? Is an 87 worth any more than a 92 because of the vintage, or should I always look for the 92 based on the fact that it had five years to get all the bugs worked out? Finally, what is a better 10 - 15 year investment? An F40, a 288 GTO, or an F50? Thanks! |
