I have wired mine into the dome light. You can remove the dome with 2 allen key bolts. Wire the live to the yellow wire (switched) and ground to black. You will have to take the outside case off the V1 connector to fit it into the dome. Wrap it with lots of insulation. Connect it with a 6 in telephone cord and you are done. Take about 20 mins.

Hope the info helps.

Hi,

As an ex-installer for mobile audio... usually you will find a "switched" electric supply from fuse box. This means a wire where power is applied ONLY when the car is on. Then you wire the + (positive) to that wire (or fuse) and the - (negative) can be to a negative (some refer to this as ground). Most cars are chassis - (negative/ground).

DO NOT USE "FLIP OVERS" FOR brwaking into a wire for power!!! These are the NASTY things that have a V" and pierces the wire by flipping over a part, thereby cutting into the wire's plastic covering. Those are HORRID things!!! Instead, cut and strip a wire and use an appropriate crimp. For those who are retentive, use shrink wrap and solder the wires together. Then place the shrink wrap over the exposed solder joint and apply heat to shrink the shrink wrap.

Hope this helps.

Daniel,
On 2nd thought now,I don't think it's wired to the battery since it goes off when the ignition is switched off.Probably to the ignition but if you need to know I'll call the stereo place that hooked it up.

I found this interesting link. It seems this fellow was manufacturing the mirrors. But isn't any longer??
www.apexcone.com/Radar/RadarLove.html
Here is quote from the website:
By remanufacturing mirrors specifically to allow the display to show through the surface, the Remote Display becomes completely invisible when dimmed or turned off. Stealthy mounting techniques for the V1 itself* (also separately required and available directly from Valentine Research) makes for a package that is invisible to the radar detector, detectors used by law enforcement and invisible to prying eyes even when viewed from less than 1 foot away.

I have V1s hard wired on my two other cars (Mercedes), which were installed by a local stereo shop. I would NOT want to be without them. They has saved me many a ticket. I have used Passports in the past but the V1 is in a different league.

JMG - Thanks for the link. It looks like the mirror is a remote display unit but you must still install 'the box' to perform the actual detection. Am I right?

Has anyone had a V1 installed in an F car with or without the mirror in Miami?

Ok, I bought one of these V1's, but I never use the dam thing. I,like Mr Hart, am opposed to the little boxes and all the wire that goes with it. The mirror V1 in very nice. Has anybody intalled one of these. How much does it cost. Can you use your mirror, and can they use your V1.

Man could you ask some more questions please.

Thanks,

Rob

Question: is the UltraSmith installation merely concealment of the display, or is the "detector" part of the unit also hidden somewhere? I don't like the look of that box stuck to my windshield, and it can't help in police relations to have the thing so visible. (I have had the k-40 system installed on a number of cars by a guy in Westchester who did the mirror trick for the displays, and when the on/off/vol control is hidden, there is no way to tell that the car has been wired).

http://www.ultrasmith.com/ does the mirrors. Suggest you wire the V1 into the ignition so it goes on/off with car. Too easy to leave it on otherwise.

I hard wire all of mine, fairly easy to do if you have a volt meter and crimps. Easiest thing to to is pick up the kit directly from Valentine, then you can simply run phone-type wire to the remote display and unit. You also have a few options for things like having your display in the mirror etc through third party sources. Headingf out for the night so I don't have time to look for the link but if you need it, I will be able to post tomorrow. Mirror was about $800 from what I recall...

Has anyone hard wired a V1 (Valentine 1 radar detector)?
If so, any suggestions?
Thanks
