The more people I talk with and the more I read...the car is worth 55k in the stated condition. I will keep looking. Too bad I like the color combo.

I think they're just pricing it as it relates to their other cars. If you're looking at the california spyder, 75K for a perfect 330 sounds cheap. I haven't seen such a nice 2 headlight 330 for sale anytime recently-this may be market price. I'm not sure its concours- the radio/console etc. looks like a recent addition, though I'm no judge, but its nice.
if someone gets it for 55 (which I think would be a good deal) I'll be jealous.

If you are serious about buying the car for $55k show up with a cashiers check made out to Symbolic for $55k. I think thats a good way of cutting through the BS. They know they then have a real buyer instead of DES and they can decide that day if they want to let the car go.

It just floors me to think in todays market where every sale is so important that a fine dealer like this is trying to only attract a "sucker"

I will keep looking unless they get real.

yeah, I hear ya, I would just walk away confident that unless they get a real sucker it won't sell - in the mean time keep looking - I would tell them straight out -that you understand all the sales mumbo jumbo but if they are interested in selling the car for a fair/reasonable price to give you a call as you are a ready and willing buyer.

Asking for a warranty... :-) that would be funny to see their faces on that one!

I am offering to deal in the 55k range but all I get back are "sales pitch" responses.

I would hope they dont loose track of their cars as they only have one 330 GT. From looking at the web site often, they should know their inventory quite well as 90% of the cars are the same ones I have seen for months.

maybe a typo on his/her part - sometimes these dealers have so many cars they loose track of them - anyway the only way you find out what the story is is to make em an offer. While these guys will say this and that about resto costs (that is someone elses miskae not yours) they should know the market will not bear what they are currently looking for. The question is what will it take to get a deal done - if you want to be a smart ass - ask them in light of all the resto work they should be confident in giving you a full warranty :-)

I just read an email from the dealer... For all to read...

Toby I understand what your saying ..this is an unusual car...not many 330
Gt. 2+2 s have what would equate to over$200,000 of restoration
work....however to take one of those cars and bring it up like this car you
would be way over this ASKING price of $85,000...it really depends what you
want a perfect car or a car that will probably need something sooner than
later..and before you know it you will be in that one close to this
one..please let me know if you have any questions
thanks

What is up with that dealer? now its 85K

toby-

i looked at that car myself, and, like you, was a bit 'sticker shocked'. it is, indeed, a very nice car, and would be eligible for the occasional show, but pebble beach quality it is not. and this is intimated by the asking price. i, personally, feel the car would be a good buy, but for 55k, not the stellar 79k asking.

my 2 cents.

Toby - this car (specifically, its radio and its seatbelts) were discussed on Tom Yang's site many months ago. Since it has been on Symbolic's site for so long, the price may begin to soften. One contributor on Tom's site who saw the car in person said that it looks as good in person as it does in the photos. 79k is definitely steep for a 330 2+2 w/ the ten-hole alloy wheels - even w/a very high-end restoration

Terry,

Those were my thoughts exactly. Cavallino I believe states 50 or 55K being a top price for a 330GT 2+2. I wish I could find a super clean 100% restored 330 for 40 to 50K. I would consider paying 60K for a 99/100 point 330 that has a full documented history.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Toby,
I follow the 330GT market pretty closely and that seems awfully high. Whether someone paid a 200k to restore it or not that does not increase the value above the high market price. Symbolic will probably be able to sell the car to someone for more than $60k, but it is unlikely that a private seller (like yourself) could get more than $50k for the same car. I would keep looking and in the mean time watch this one, more than likely you will find a similar car for less money or they will call you with a reduced asking price. Average asking price is $40k (according to FML) I would look to spend in that area for a really superb example. I don't have a Cavallino with me, but I think they list the car at around $50k and they are usually high for 2+2s.

Thats a good point. I think I have read it can cost thousands just to have a set restored.

I am no expert but I think a car with borranis would command a prem over steel wheels, you could prob get good money for a set of borranis all by themselves

i considered a 550 at symbolic. they told me it was in perfect condition. a buddy of mine who lives a couple miles from their LA showroom visited and the car was in FINE shape, but hardly "perfect". you need to see it with your own eyes (or a pair you really trust) to gauge its condition.

i've never done biz with symbolic - no clue if they're good or not, but they definitely are expensive, that's for sure.

good luck!

doody.

I believe the Borranis were an option but the steel wheels came on them as well. I am not sure how to tell what set should be on the car unless you had the original paperwork.

didn't those cars come with optional borranis - I notice this one has the steel wheels, looks real sharp inside and out for 49k miles. Make em an offer. This cars will never be supercars worth big money but for a occasional driver and ability to show well, hey you can't go wrong

frist off...sorry about the typos...it's a 330GT not a 300gt and tought= thoughts. I can't seem to find where you can edit the title.

I received an email from the company selling the car with some details. The Asking Price is 79K. I was told that the car has roughly 200K in restoration costs and has won every concourse it has entered in recent history. The car is "as new" and the guys at symbolic say its the "hands down" best 330GT they have ever seen.

Now,

The question is...is it really worth 79K when most super clean 330's are in the 40-60K range?

For an average upper middle class Joe like me...is it worth paying the extra knowing that you have a 99/100 (guess) car? Is paying that extra a bad investment or a wise for the long-term?

Is it really a good time to buy? The market seems very soft (except this cars asking price) I guess another thought is if the Ferrari market does shoot through the roof...having a "like new" 330 puts one in a great position IF I wanted to sell.

One factor I am not considering is the emotional part of this possible purchase. If that were the case...I would have purchased it a long time ago without regard to future values.

I would also have no plans of driving the car that often. Maybe a thousand or so miles a year. I want a showpiece vintage Ferrari. I have other cars for bruising the pavement.

Thanks for any thoughts or comments.
