A v12 dino? huh?

at this point, there are so many theories running around, you could tell me it'll have a 2l straight 8 (quite a feat!) and it'll be as probable...

Bart, I heard a destroked (5.5L or so) Enzo unit will be stuffed in the new Maranello and 456M replacement as well. But what's this about a 3xx V12 car? Any other info on it?

Just got back from the Belgium Ferrari importer and he said that the new 360 will have a central V12 (2005). They are also going to put the Enzo engine in a 2+2 coupe.

Hmm...I thought Marcello Gandini (Bertone) was responsible for the Miura.

I have a feeling that the successor will be a radical departure from the the normal 3-series succession. Perhaps a V10 to combat the upcoming small Lambo?

Frank Stephenson (the new F-M design/styling uber-boss) said in Autoweek: "The first job with more of my input will be the next 360 Modena" so it can't be coming too soon, and IIRC a 360 Stradale picture caption said 2005 for the "next 360".

I loved his response of the diplomacy required when you're dealing with the Italian design gods:

"...it can feel kind of difficult to tell a guy whos considered the best designer of the century (i.e. Giorgio Giugiaro) that you prefer it this way. Youre the new kid on the block and you were wetting your bed while he was doing the Lamborghini Miura..."

I liked what he said about Pininfarina too -- it doesn't need fixing: "With Pininfarina, you deal with a group of people who together are doing fantastic work. And how can you mess with that?". Plus some usual class LdM-speak:

ELI: from what I've been told there won't a replacement model in early 2004.Pretty sure about this.

Gian Maria: I think it's going to be almost impossible to get a Stradale before winter.Your best bet is to contact some of the bigger italian dealers.Good luck.

Luigi:

Can you at least tell us if the replacement will be out in 04. I am deciding in between buying a 02-03 spider or an 04 coupe. If i know the replacement will be availalbe in early 04 i will rather wait.

About the 360 replacement all I can tell you for now is that they aren't going to follow their usual pattern as they did for V8s in the past.I can't tell you more for now otherwise somebody will be in trouble ;)

I'm assuming this is going to be a non-street-legal vehicle?

A friend of mine went to Fiorano today and got some info on the Challenge Stradale from a Ferrari executive:

The car will indeed weigh under 1200 kgs for sure, I don't know how they managed this but it really is amazing.
The F1 system is extremely quicker than that found in the 360.
The power will be slightly higher than the Modena's(around 420 true hp).
Not sure if the perspex windows will pass all homologation issues, so they aren't 100% sure they'll make it to the production car.
The wheels are magnesium 19 inch items and the tyres are a variation of the Pirelli Pzero Corsa especially made for the CS (225 fr. and 295 back) with more longitudinal grooves.
The back end doesn't only sport the new ducktail, but is subtly reworked in a very aggressive way.

And now hear this:
The Challenge Stradale is the second fastest car to ever lap Fiorano circuit, having just the Enzo quicker.(F50, F40 etc... are all slower)

Price will be around 160-165000 Euros in Europe.
I'm almost sure that it's going to be sold in the US also.

All the other specs are the same as what I've already told you a while ago...
