i never liked those high mirrors. so glad when they moved them. saw a particularly bad idea last year on an 86 tr in the uk, where the guy had installed a high passenger side mirror. i can understand why he wanted the extra vision but the car looked goofy.

I remember reading an article about the TR's development. DOT regulations stated that a side view mirror had to give an unobstructed view of behind with no body panel inrtusions.

The high mounted drivers mirror complied but a passenger that would comply couldn't be seen from the driver's seat without craning your neck. So they stuck with the one high mounted flying bridge. The law changed in 87 amd the mirrors doubled and moved down to the doors.

It's a trait of all post 87 TRs. Flanks and engine cover consume some portion of every rearward mirror. I think the 512TR's modified engine cover was the begining of a unobstructed interior rear view mirror.

I'm soo glad I have a place to take my useless information.

some of the other cars (i.e 308/328) in the picture are missing the passanger side mirror. i presume that the pic was taken in europe, where it's failry common to see cars w/out the passanger side mirror.

DES - 1985-86 Testarossas can be distinguished from their younger cousins by the single mirror and the center wheel nut. In 1987 they went to dual (lower) mirrors and 5-bolt wheel pattern. IMHO, the asymmetry of the single mirror adds to the "intrigue" of the car.

Des, I absolutely see three and a fourth obscured by the mirror of the yellow TR.

Two of the others are the two behind the one obscured by the mirror of the yellow TR. The final one is just the mirror in the upper right side of the picture.

So, then, I get the idea that I'll go to the track instead... and guess what?

I'm SOOOO depressed! No 'GT4's

PS - Early GT4s don't have right side mirrors either.

The early Daytona's and 365gt4 did not have any outside mirrors at all. I drove a Daytona without outside mirrors once, scary! I have a tiny one on the driver side and are missing it terribly on the passenger side. The early testarossa's had only a driver side mirror and it was raised up high (1985/86?). in the next generation they had dual mirrors, low. Here you see three early testarossa's

I think that the early model Testarossas did not have right side mirrors. If you look at the other cars, I think you can see right side mirrors on all or most of them.

& i'm sure one of you nice gentleman (or lady:-)) will explain to me why none of these cars has a passenger's side mirror...? i know you're not supposed to pass on the right, but COME ON...
