martin,
a 95 GTB with 24,000 miles for $85,000 and you think that's a good deal? I am surprised!

Rudy I have a consignment car in CA with less than 24K Miles, service done in June, the car is pampered and it is a 1995 355B. You can buy this car for about $85,000 red/tan with Tubi.
All books, all records 2 owner car.
super clean car.

e-mail me if you want some more info on the car.

Tom....agreed....that is just the typical Ferrari dealer FUC*ING the uninformed customer.
I've even heard of someone paying $40,000 for a rebuild! That has to be full list on all parts, with every part being replaced (needed or not), as well as full book time for labor, when we all know what a SCAM that is!

Rudy

Price seems about right. Just bought my 355 last month (97 S for 110). The car exceeds all my expectations and fits me like a glove!

One school of thought is if the dealer did the work and he has all records, you may look at it as a value added feature of having a fresh motor. However, dealers are not perfect and the car may have gremlins...does the dealer offer any warranty on the work they did?

The red report sounds very reasonable. I did PPI on 4 cars at an average price of $600 each. But F-Cars are a rare breed and do they know what to look for? Yes, they can look under the car and tell you the CV boots are OK, but do they know the specific items to look for which are inherent to the 355?

95's have the valve guide problems, which seems to be taken care of here (if they went to the steel guides) and I assume they did. Other big ticket items are: Cracked headers - a 95 exceeds the 7 year window for factory replacement. Cats - also exceeds 7 year and Water Pump - engine out service.

However, there is no Substitute for seeing and driving the car.

My $.02
p.s. Nice color combo...let us know how it works out for you...
:-)

Randy - that sounds like good advice. If the inspection doesn't go perfectly, we'll keep looking and try to attend some events so my wife can get a look at the cars. This particular example caught my eye because of its low price - I guess we'll see how it goes.

Rudy, I know you are anxious to get a Ferrari, but from the Texas forum thread, it seems that you aren't sure about the 355's looks to mak esure that its right for you and your wife.

I would definately come to a meet or two, check out the cars, sit in them, maybe even take a ride to see if they are to your liking. Never know, because they are fit for others - they might not be fit for you. Some, even for me, no matter how much I dig them, they just don't 'feel' right in the seat in regards to steering wheel position, pedal position, etc. But those will take time to adjust.

One individual's buying advice on Ferrari's was - never go for the first one you find. Sometimes it takes up to a year of looking at a handful of them. But this isn't to say this isn't "the one". Its just to say, take your time. But I'm still interested to hear how this one turns out with your evaluations.

The car is supposed to be in pristine condition. I'm having a "red report" run on the car to check it out. I'm not really sure why he's selling - I guess I should ask. The repairs were done by Ferrari of Denver, so it all appears to be on the up and up. We'll see how the red report goes...

Rickys range is based on the fact that it is a clean car...all around.

Not the Ebay special!

If the work was done by an authorized dealer....I don't think it should adversly effect the value of the car.

On the other hand, I don't think it makes it any more valuable.

I think Ricky has a good range on the price. Of course, there are others here who 'think' or 'know' without having bought one recently, who will tell you that you can buy it for $70-$75,000.

If he just poured $36k on an engine rebuild, do you know why he is selling it?

well, I know it was more than the soft valves - here's what's in the report:
"Driver's side front cover bearing let loose, jumped timing on the left bank, damaged crank gear, both lower timing gears and engine block, complete tear down of motor including cylinder removal for machining of engine block. Some parts charged out for engine rebuild with exception of head work...) He spent about $36k on the rebuild!

If the motor was rebuilt to fix the soft valve problem then it's actually a plus. The 95s had soft valve problems that Ferrari was aggressive to fix. My 95 had the valves replaced and i paid $91,000 from an authorized dealer in September. Car has 15,000 miles (red/tan). Now if the motor was rebuilt because someone downshifted from 6th to 2nd at 130 MPH and a piston blew, then its a different story and would probably adversely affect the value of the car. Depending on if it is an authorized dealer or private seller the price for that car can range from low $80s to mid $90s, depending on other things also like documentation and how clean it is.

I think we've decided on getting a 355 - we're looking at one that has had a lot of engine work done to it. It looks like a complete engine rebuild less than 2k miles, 3 months ago(for those of you interested, I have a complete work order here: http://rudymarsh.com/1995-ferrari/fax/). How does this affect the value? It's a 1995 silver berlinetta with 16k miles - how much do you think this car is worth? Thanks!
