Well guys I'm just preparing my schedule for the weekend drives, all with the top down, of course.

It's supposed to be 82 tomorrow and 81 on Sunday.

Frank,
The cold is not an issue. Up here the roads are intermittently ice or snow covered depending on whether or not they're shaded and the quality of plowing done by towns.

However, the biggest problem is the amount of salt that has built up on the roads. I still have strong memories of watching my Alfas disintegrate before my eyes during the spring when the spring dampness found the salt hiddden in the car's recesses.

I drove my Boxer to work today and it was 9 degrees outside. Feraris do have heaters you know. In fact, they work much better than their A/Cs. If its not snowing or raining drive it. The cold won't hurt it!

My condolences to your two kids because I have ridden in the back seat of an early Mustang. Once is enough for me! I ran across a local guy who wrecked his Factory Five Cobra on his first trip down the road. It was the Mustang-frame version. The front fender was ripped pretty hard, but not unrepairable. He was going to just buy a new body. He offered me the body shell for $1000, but I thought that it looked like a money pit so I passed.

Horsefly,

That's my wife's toy, also hiding from the artic chill. Its a '64.5 Mustang, with the 260V8. Kinda cool, but nothing special. Its steering is so boosted and sloopy that its scary over 55MPH. As I have two kids, that's our family cruise-in car. I do wish it was an early Vette, though!

Hey Lee, is that a Sting Ray Corvette lurking in the background? With a vent window, it must be a pre 1968 Chevy of some sort. Maybe that's your snow buggy.

With -20 outside, one way to stay away from the cabin blues is to learn to drive GP4 with traction control turned off. That'll keep me busy for hours.

I drove my car 4 times this week! It was 55 degrees F here 2 days ago. It is a bit colder today, but I just got back from another run. The car seems to like the cold air A LOT! Or is it my right foot again?? Anyway, I dedicate todays drive to Nika! Heres to you! Sorry all of you cannot drive your cars.

cold? Cabin Fever????? Try living in this frozen wasteland. The dogs gaze up at me with puzzled looks as I throw them outside in the morning. They are back after doing their business in exactly 4.6 seconds......that how I know it's bloody freeeeeezig outside. I don;t have Cabin Fever - I'm HIBERNATING.

I came back to the South (Knoxville, TN) from Chicago last night. It was snowing. I left the airport at 10:30PM to drive 20 miles home in a Miata. At 2:30AM, my Dad dropped me, sans Miata, off at my house! :-( I abandoned the car on the highway, and AAA said it will be two days before they can tow it to my home. Here's a pic...

Winter has worn away its welcome, but I'm using the down time to search for a TR. And I'll take my 308 out to L.I. tomorrow for her last ride with me.

I just got back from 9 days on the West Coast, 7 of which were spent driving the PCH, starting in San Fran. and ending in LA, with several days in Big Sur, Santa Barbara, etc. Rented a Maserati Spyder, which i thoroughly enjoyed. For about the same money, you could ship your ferrari, first class, to the West Coast and back (as i did 2 years before) to make the same jaunt. Or, wait for a break in the weather, and drive toward a sunny clime as i did 3 years ago, from NY to Fla. in a 512 BBi. Or,.... (well, you get the idea. There is no substitute for driving a sportscar than driving a sportscar, with all due respect to videogames, or other "simulations." Don't know about indoor track shifter carts since i don't think any are very close to me: Bruce-whaddabout Joisey?)

Hey Thomas, I feel for you, I'm in a similar situation. Except I have Porsche withdrawls. Oh and it was -40 degrees Cel. (with windchill) this morning! And it's been like this for the last 2 weeks.

Usually I get my fix during the winter by turning the car on every month or so. But it's been so damn cold I haven't even done that!

I just drive the car in NY in the cold weather. The only thing is that the car gets so dirty and the manual car washes are not working. Actually, engines likes the cold weather, they run even better.

Thanks for all the advice. It helps.

My wife and I just returned from a nice Italian meal where we sat over a bottle of Pinot Grigio and discussed plans for our return trip to Italy and Modena/Maranello this coming summer. That will get me through the rest of the evening and tomorrow I'll try some of your suggestions.

Matt and Greg, you were out done. I received a call from my brother who is in Muaui where it was in the mid-eighties. Why did he call? He wanted to know if I thought it would be worth it for him to rent a 355 for a couple of days! Oh, the pain of it all!

Dare I suggest a Ferrari snowmobile? Check out
www.route6x6.com for some bizarre 6 wheeled drive vehicles. There are also some vintage snowmobile sites for added inspiration.

Thomas,

Try Xbox Gotham City and take the F50 for a spin :-) . Enter in the NAME section "nosliW" without quotes. It opens ALL tracks and cars and colors :-)

Enjoy the Drive,

Thomas, don't listen to any of these guys- especially Matt Lemus...! (Matt, you bastard:-))... The best thing to do is to do whatever it takes to completely get your mind off of driving- work on a jigsaw puzzle or write a poem or bake a cake... i know how you feel, believe me... Take a nap, even... Browse the internet, make prank phone calls- call The Sports Authority in CT, ask them what team jerseys they have...! (ask me about that, i'll explain)... Do whatever it takes to get your mind off of driving... i know you feel, buddy, hang in there... :-)

I have the "I Can't Drive My Lotus" syndrome due to a yet to be diagnosed distributor problem. The garage is so cold all I've accomplished in a week is I have no spark. I find watching "Monster Garage" on TV is VERY painful!

I'm sitting here hiding from the -26 degree windchill looking past the several feet deep snow to where the car is put away for the winter and going through serious Ferrari withdrawal. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to combat the "I can't drive my Ferrari" cabin fever. My schedule precludes attending the Cavallino Classic and I can't think of any other way to get my Ferrari fix.

Please help before I do something stupid, like take the car out!
Tom
