I see the point made by your guys, as regards why the scratch is being deliberately left on. Hmm, there are 2 sides to every coin, especially when you are in different parts of the world. I learn something new every day. What a joy. |

Hi Ken, Chris is absolutely right. Things could be repaired and fixed or replaced as long as it is nothing too serious(of course, what is serious might various from one to another) as long as the price is right! Happy hunting! |

Ken, a scratch should not bother you that much. It can be repaired to new with little difficulty and a known scratch is much better on a good car than a cosmetically perfect car with little service history. The key is to keep good records so you can document all work performed and the reasons behind it. That having been said, the used car market as a whole, and the ferrari market in particular, is a buyers market right now. That means you need to be patient to get the right price. 456's are great cars but are falling like a rock. Owner's will be in shock with the decline in prices and are likely to ask to much. Be patient and you can buy all you want in a 456 for 100K. Know that prices on these cars will fall to 60-80K so you can expect depreciation for the next 10 years. But that's true with all current regular production cars and you can enjoy this one every day. Good luck! |

On my search for my car, I can tell you that a repainted front bumper was very common. The noses are so low that they get scratched and chipped very easily. As long as the bumper is removed and painted correctly, I don't think it really hurts the value at all.(On a modern car)If that is what you are worried about, and the rest of the deal turns out to be good for you, I wouldn't hesitate because of the bumper. |

Thank you all. First, I should have let you all know I am buying. You have relied some sound logic about leaving the scratch for inspection/ selling purposes. Although this may sound close minded, a repainted vehicle, especially a front bumper, I would not even consider. I would not repaint the front bumper and the scratch is a deal breaker. Because of the metallic color, brush touching will not blend in...I know because of experience on a similar colored car. It is just unfortunate for buyer and seller. However, something could chip the front bumper over time; accidents and acts of God do happen and the front is highly susceptible to debris. A $100 to $115K range as opposed to $125K would still has me reviewing this car as it is so....well nice. I am very found of the traction control and seat memory that a 512TR does not have. And the color combo...need I say more? Additionally, I can conceive a child in the back seat, place a dead body in the trunk and drink coffee while shifting my automatic in commute traffic (yuk, yuk...just some humor). Here's the VIN: ZFFWP50A40X0116051

Duh! I obviously overlooked "GTA" in the title of this thread! So, are you buying or selling? |

It sounds like you are buying and I would say your 115 is a good area to be in. I think you are expecting too much off for a scratch that is easily repaired. Many people leave the scratch when they sell so the buyer can see exactly why it needs painted (so they wouldn't assume it was in an accident)and usually take the cost of the fix off the price, not 10-20k. You never know though, good luck. |

If you are selling, I would not sell the 456 for less than $125K. Your fellow Fchatters are right. For that amount of money, I would much rather leave aside the sale for a while, and enjoy the car instead for as long as I could. If you are buying, then I just do not understand why, with a decent 456 owner, he would be prepared to leave the scratch on his prized possession for any length of time without even bothering to fix it first. If that is his attitude, there must be something wrong with him. I would dread to think about what might have been happened to the poor car. By way of reference, in Hong Kong, a 1999 456M GTA with, say, 18,000 kms would probably cost around US$160,000. This is because Hong Kong's stupid car registration tax is unduly high, which pushes up the price to an almost punitive level. I do not agree that an automatic is necesarily a bad choice. For second hand cars, an automatic gearbox is much less susceptible to abuse than a manual box (with clutch), since gear changes would have been largely accomplished at pre-ordained levels. |

You won't fare too well, especially because it is a GTA (auto). Are you unhappy with the car? Why not keep it a while and enjoy it, seeing as though you're gonna take a hit when you sell it? Put another 2000 miles on it, THEN sell it. At least you'll be able to truly enjoy the wonders of the 456... |

Ken, there's no definitive value but I would say you're in the ballpark with the figures you provided. They are in line with Cavallino's lower end estimates, but the numbers have been consistantly dropping. Is it a stick or auto? Are you buying or selling? If you're selling, dump it now. If you're buying, why not hold out a little longer? |

Hi all, 9000 miles. Good sized scratch on front bumper...not collision. Griglio (sp) (light gold metallic) and tan interior. I could not find any current values on the web. Mostly cars that have been advertised for months (and months) and the dollar amounts seem to have not changed during this time. Additionally, I do not have access to Forza' Guides. If I was to start, because of the scratch $100K to $110K. Repainted scratch $90K to $100K Without the scratch $115K to $125K. The forum's knowledge and comments are always welcomed. |
