DES--- I won't trouble you with a prize. (I just pay attention) I have a job I love and had to take a 10k a year cut just to work here. But now I know the importence of doing something that you love is a lot more important then doing something you have to do. Good Luck in your ventures. |

LOL, that sounds tempting, Mitchell, but until my boss screws me over, i'll be with him. He hired me on a whim, knowing i knew absolutely nothing about this business. 2 years later, i'm making twice what i was making when i started, with some nice perks and they're really nice people outside of the office. Their door is always open to me. We've been through some rough areas, but all in all, it's been a pleasant ride, even though i'm not exactly thrilled with what i'm doing; it is a living and it's definitely better than pumping gas (although ironically i made more pumping gas )... Even my boss has offered to pay for my licensing, for insurance, but i've done sales before, worked off of commission only and was horrible at it... i'm not particularly fond of meeting people all day and having to superficially smile and talk to them and try to sell them something they need but don't feel like buying- if they want it, they'll call for it... Otherwise, the brokers can go solicit- it's not for me, though... i'll stay in the office... |

www.esurance.com / much lower insurance rates. Interesting. I don't see much room for a Ferrari in your current situation either, however, there are a few things you can do. #1 Get your realtor license (very easy and can be done online except for the last test) Then work weekends for builders as a Host. You will make around 100 - 125 a day but more importantly, you will make contacts. If you do a good job (impress) you may be offered an assosiate position with them, making around 2700 a month + $300 a sale. This is just the start however, as within a year or less, if you are good and work hard, you can get your own community. Then you can complain about them shorting you $10,000 in a check. ;) |

David, no, i don't need anything but the lowest allowable insurance minimum that's legal in the state of NY... i also need to slow down... My mistakes are mine and i can't blame anyone else for them... i guess i just have to suck it up and wait the 40 months for my offenses to disappear; then my rate will be lower... Fennell... My schedule permits me to take a second job on the weekends, but i choose not to... i'm finally in a position where i only need to work one job to support myself and that's a big weight off of my shoulders... i've sacrificed plenty just to be where i am, believe me, and i've no regrets thus far... (well, maybe i do, but let's not get into that )... at only 23, i can guarantee i've had more jobs than 90% of the people on this site- a large number of which, are twice my age... My current employment obligation is my 23rd in my life time... i started working when i was 9 years old... Only a few years ago, a 90 hour work week meant i had a day off... There was a time when i was making half of what i'm making now, per hour and was still pulling in twice what i'm making now, per week... Sure, chronologically, i'm only 23, but mentally, psychologically, i feel old and tired... Most think i'm weird; that i should be out "clubbing" and dancing and drinking all night long with the young girlies... i'd much prefer to sit in the dark corner of a quiet restaurant with a mid 40s divorcee and have a deep conversation over a bottle of wine... My mind is old, and that's what keeps me from pumping gas in the cold, 8 hours a day, on weekends- i finally don't have to. If i thought the extra money would amount to a Ferrari in the long run, i'd do it, but the numbers just don't add up, especially with this insurance nightmare... If i come across a part time job that i like and that fits into my schedule, i'll take it; otherwise, i'll continue with what i've been doing... i choose to work only one job 'cause it's the first time in my life that i can make that choice... i don't take your comments as "jumping on me", in fact i appreciate the suggestions, thank you... i definitely see the point you're making and i certainly know how it would apply... but that application just isn't for me, right now... |

DES, that insurance rate sounds very painful. You work in an insurance agency, right? Nothing you can do to get it down? When I was in my early 20's and had just put a TVR on the road, I was quoated 3,000+, wound up with Budget Brokerage($650.00), for basic liability. Do you need more than basic liability now. |

DES, "no time" for a 2nd job? You have to make a distinction between what you *have* to do and what you *choose* to do. Everyone I know who has been really successful sacrificed to get there. 100hr weeks, multiple jobs, whatever. I work about 12hrs/day in total between a "regular" job and consulting. I'm sure that would be a *light* workload for many people here. Not jumping on you - just offering a different perspective.

Red is right...! i'm 23... i'll figure out what your "prize" is, later... Most people think i'm older than i actually am; my hair dresser was shocked when she found out i was only 23- like Paul, she thought i was 30... For those of you though i was younger than i actually am, i guess that tells me something about how i come across to you, on here... It's nice to see that i still have a kid in me, somewhere... Just think- in two more years, i'll be old enough to be eligible to run for president...! (Isn't that wonderful...? LMAO!) Mitchell, after taxes, i pulled in about $21,800 in 2002... That boils down to about $1,800 a month... i pay $475 a month, for rent; $65 phone bill (unlimited local is the only package i have, 'cause i never make outgoing calls except logging onto the internet and have no use for long distance); Got my cell phone bill down from $100 a month to $60- i need a lot of minutes due to the fact that i sometimes use my phone for work-related purposes and i never want to take the chance that i'm stuck on the side of the road and i can't call someone 'cause it's gonna be fifty cents a minute, 'cause i used all my minutes up; it costs about $15 to fill up my car and i fill it up approximately 3 times a week; insurance is another crazy nightmare, they've rescinded on their offer for $3150 a year and went back to $6300, which is way too much for me... i was paying about 4k a year, so i'm presently looking into alternatives (not many available, though)... the insurance comes out to a little over 300 dollars a month, so figure 350; not sure what the exact numbers are, here, but i guess the rest of my money goes towards food, cigarettes, the occassional movie rental, etc... A Ferrari is definitely not in my immediate future and i can accept that... i won't scrimp and save every penny and eat macaroni & cheese 6 nights a week, in the hopes of owning a Ferrari in 5 years- the insurance on it will kill me, even in 5 years and i could die on my way to the dealership, then all that saving would've been for naught... Like many here on FerrariChat, i want to be able to pay in cash, this way, if something should happen, i can just write it off, no problem... |

26, BTW, DES, how much do you make a month? what are your monthly expenses? What is your plan to getting a Ferrari? A friend of mine saved $650 a month for (11 years!) That's right... 11 years. He wanted a Countach at the time, however, he saved and saves and bought a new Diablo a few years back. You would be shocked at how well saving money works. |

Paul, i didn't think you had anything up your sleeve & if Bruce vouches for you, then you must be an okay guy- not that i didn't think so, before... Any 10 year projection that i might've mentioned was probably premature- but you never know... Yes, i would fair to say that, chronologically, i guess i could be considered young... Bruce- not that i have anything against any types of relationships, but no amount of insurance will get me to let another guy accept my package...! As far as my age is concerned, well... Guess... i've mentioned it on here, before, so i know some people know... i know Bruce knows, so Bruce, don't say anything... Whoever's right or closest in 24 hours gets um... well, i'll think of something... |

Paul, i'm not sure how my age is relevant to my last post... But i didn't take it as a flame or anything, it's just that different things make me happy than those things that make everyone else happy... Bruce, thanks for the back up, it's awesome being in your corner, thank you, although i don't think Paul meant any harm... Matt, you too, thank you, although i eternally hate you for beating me to bringing up Celine Deon- i can't stand her and nothing america has done is as bad as anything she's done... Also, just for reference (and the fact that it annoys the crap outta me), "DES" is pronounced with an S sound, not a Z sound- not trying to nit-pick, it's just a pet peeve... It's not like it's short for Desmond or anything, it's just DES... |

Ok... i had the chance to test them out, today... As a bonus, i had the chance to test them out with my uncle's 530i- unfortunately, though, he won't let me drive it without he, himself, being present- (i wonder why... ) So we drive a little around the neighborhood, he needed to stop at the ATM and then at the car wash... Afterwards, though, we headed out onto the parkway for about 10-15 minutes... WHOOOOOOOOOOOO...! He's got some gray hair, now, but at least he can say he's been in a car that hit 96mph... Getting back to topic: The gloves fit like, well... gloves. It almost feels like i'm not wearing anything at all, but they still have that same signature leather grip, perfect for handling, without any discomfort, whatsoever- these are a definite recommendation. The seams on the gloves are very noticeable- i've never had a pair of gloves with seams that stuck out so much, but they don't interfere with their purpose, at all... Great "hand"ling, great comfort, incredible grip- i'm definitely beyond the point of no return; i'll never drive without gloves, again. (i just wanna say thank you to whoever created an eBay account with my name and linked it to these gloves- they were cheaper than the ones i was originally looking at and i'm very pleased with them. To whoever did this, i thank you. ) |

DES, He's right, you know. If you really wanted to get into a Ferrari, you can pick up a GT4 between 10K and 12K (running, but barely). Put another way, that's only $425/month for 2 years. Put yet another way, that's only a part time job: 20 hr/week * $7/hr (-taxes). Just food for thought. EDIT: I should have expected that you'd beat me to the post |

Jay, i don't buy t-shirts, flags, barbies, cologne, magazines, mouse pads, stickers, computers or shoes- the cologne came with a car ($6 total) and all my magazines are free. The model cars make me happy and that's what life is about. If i didn't buy them, i still wouldn't be able to afford a Ferrari... i have 10k that i won in a lawsuit, in the bank- i don't touch that for anything frivolous (but i have had to dip into it for a few other things)... i work my ass off, & if i never logged on while i was at work, i'd make the same amount of money... i appreciate the advice, but i've considered all avenues and a Ferrari just isn't in the cards for me, in my immediate future... A few years down the line (a decade, maybe) and it'll be a different story, we'll have to see... |

DES, I've got an idea that will get you into a Ferrari quicker than you think! Stop buying Ferrari gloves, model cars, t-shirts, flags, Barbie's , cologne, magazines, mouse pads, stickers, computer games, and shoes! Each time you feel the urge to buy this stuff, put the money into a savings account! Next, do a little more work and a little less chat! Sooner than you can say "Forza Ferrari" you will have enough to buy one! |
