Ahh Yea, Dragula is ready to run from Barney & his one bullet! :-O

dragula

Another note about Aunt Bee. Remember that she couldn't drive worth a damn but she still goes out & gets a private pilots licensee to fly a Cessna 172. WTF?

L.Wayne, thanks for the short nose/long nose education. If the car didn't have the logo on the nose, I might have suspected that the production crew removed the horse to eliminate "prodect identification" which was pretty much taboo during 1960s television. I would have tried to figure out a way to post the still frame of the video, but that would probably violate some copyright law and then I would have to send $25 to Jack Valenti.

Ahh, the internet. Send out a comment, come back eight hours later and there have been several people have a great time discussing it.

I love it.

It would still be interesting to know if that car survives and whether its owner knows that Opie once graced the seat and that Aunt Bee put her purse on the hood.

Arlie, Bill, a shortnose model should have the cavallino in the grille. The long nose does not.

I think Frank Barris turned it into the Munster's Dragula :-)

Actually, Steve McQueen saw it just before the filming of LeMans, bought it from Gomer and had it shipped to Europe. While there, he wrecked it and then sold it to a local salvage yard. Some say its still there.

OK, it took me a few minutes but heres the scoop.
It's episode number 242, titled "Goober goes to the Auto Show". Exactly 5 minutes and 41 seconds into the second segment of the show, Opie hops into a Ferrari, which looks to me like a 275. (I'm not an expert) But I did notice that it did NOT have a horse in the grill, just an emblem on the nose. This is a good episode. Goober looks up a old friend who is a big talker. But the old friend turns out to be working at a gas station just like Goober does.

And even more seriously, if somebody knew the specific title of that Ferrari episode or the episode number, I could walk 10 feet from where I am sitting (at my TV station workplace) and access every episode of Andy Griffith which we have on file. (most all of them, some of the later color episodes are missing). I could pop in the tape and shuttle to the Ferrari scene for an in depth examination.

Otus bought that car and was later arrested by Barney for driving drunk through Mayberry. Otus sold the car to Floyd for posting the bail money and attorney fees. When Floyd became too sick to drive, he took it to Goober's station for a full service before he put it on the market. Unfortunately, he never paid for the service, Goober slapped a lein on the car, obtain a title for it, then sold it to his cousin Gomer who drove it to California when he enlisted in the Marines. I think Gomer sold it to a dealer in Los Angeles.

I guess being home with a cold today actually worked out for the best.

I knew I had vague recollections of a Ferrari being in one of the Andy Griffith episodes and it is on right now.

It is an early color episode, the gang goes to Raleigh for a car show. A burgundy 275 GTB, which appears to be a short nose, figures prominently in a couple of scenes. Opie even gets in and proceeds to cover the roof of the car with the windshield squirters.

Is there any info or tales about what happened to this car?
