Red, I fully understand! I work on that side. It is frustrating telling a customer that the only way to get a part is to buy a kit or complete unit when the part that broke is maybe $1.00. Then I look bad when I tell them that the kit is $700+ . And there's nothing you can do. For example I was just recently talking to a gentleman about his 348 door locks, there's a small plastic piece that broke, probably cost $1.00 somewhere, but Ferrari wont sale it unless it is part of a kit. The kit was over $700. Kinda makes you think hu... ~Sodacoms~ www.sodacoms.com

And now you guys my understand the difference of what side of the counter you stand on......... This is how parts are avaliable to us. Its just as frustraiting for us to have to deal with this, as you the consumer to have to pay for it, but if thats how a manf. is going to do, so be it. One funny story from our end.....We ordered a set of centers(lug caps) for a Azure. It went on backorder from Bentley, and 3 months later nothing. We checked stock on all the individual parts, and they had all the parts in stock, yet they could/would not send us the indivudal parts. So after 2 weeks of fighting with them, they finally sent us the kit which was $200 cheaper. |

Fairly common experiences, actually. My Mazda's driver's door lock got messed up by a would be thief. I had to buy three new locks in order to not have two different keys (driver's, passenger & trunk). Even then, I had to rekey two of the three new locks, since Mazda wouldn't "guarantee" that if I ordered them together, that the keys would match (they didn't). I couldn't just by one and re-key it, becuase somewhere along the line they changed key types, and the "old" ones weren't available. On a previous Toyota, I needed a small piece of dash trim and had to buy the entire subsection of the dash (~$140), rather than the one messed up lever (~$5 probably). I got a used on from a wrecking yard ($25).

I wanted the electrical portion of the ignition switch for my 348. You have to buy what they call "anti-theft device", which is a complete ignition switch and both door locks. There was nothing wrong with my locks/keys. This is an example of what Jay is talking about. It certainly isn't just Ferrari doing this. I remember numerous stripped seat track gears in Acura Legends. It was an easy, 10 minute job, to get the gear out, but they wouldn't sell them. You had to buy an entire seat track/regulator assembly in order to get the gear. It was several hundred dollars to replace a $1.00 plastic gear! And somewhere there was obviously a big bin with thousands of the gears just waiting to go into a dumpster. |

Jay I know what you mean. Not Ferrari but a VW I needed a part for my moonroof on my old Corrado VR6 and they wanted close to 800 smackers for a whole kit but I just needed this little tiny plastic hook. I ended up calling VW and they had to call the dealership to sell me just the part I needed. $35 is what the dealership ended up charging me for something that they wanted to rip me off for another 700 dollars. I think right after that is when I decided to get rid of my VW's |

I was just making a joke! I need a left turn signal lens so when I called Ferrari they told me that I could only order the whole fixure for $600. A month later I called regarding the female end of the driver's side seatbelt and they told me I need to purchase the entire seatbelt unit for both front seats for $500. I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences? To me, a parts counter should sell parts, right? Why can't I just buy what I need? Buy the time I replace everything I'll need a separate garage just for the spare parts! Well, guess I just needed to vent. I'll take a look at that site Jeff, thanks. I guess you have to buy the caps togather also, huh? HaHaHa! LOL |

Jay- This is one of the only items that is sold in a kit. Working with two other manuf. they sell everything in kits, but Ferrari is really good or bad, depending on how you look at it, at selling everything individualy(except in this case). If you are looking for the regular black valves stem caps, go to a local parts store. If you are looking for the chrome Ferrari ones, I am not sure who sells those by themselves.

Hi J saber. I'm not at work today so can't check our inventory, but if you log onto www.owners.ferrari.com , Mondial is listed. Have a look for the part number on the online parts catalog and check stock online too. Once you're in the Owners' Site, the parts catalogs are just 3 clicks away ! Owners' Site>Vintage>Spare Parts>Go Let me know if you need further help. Regards. |

Customer: Hi there, I'm looking for a valve stem cap for a 1982 Mondial. Would you guys happen to have any? Dealership: Sorry, we don't have that item in stock. Customer: Can I have one ordered for me then? How much will it be? Dealership: That specific part can not be ordered individually. It comes in a kit. You will have to buy the whole car at $35,000. Would you like to take that on your major credit card? My Question: Why must everything be sold in pairs? Why is it that when you only need this or that you must buy it with those also? Is there a parts counter out there that sells parts and not cars? |
