Rudy, I get all Dave's announcements via email. Check out www.fcahillcountry.org for contact info and send him an email to be on the distribution list.

Look forward to meeting you in our next meet.

Rudy,

Was it a U.S. version? 75 is an awesome price for a US or Euro. Congrats!

Thank you for all the nice comments everyone :-)

Carmine - I'd love to come to the next meeting. I live in SW austin very close to Oak Hill. Does Dave post local get-togethers on the Texas board?

Jeff - I can't wait to read the writeup about your 348 - awesome machine!

Doody - Here are the circumstances leading up to the purchase:
Saw the car on ebay about 2 months ago - nobody met the reserve. Saw it again a couple of weeks later - nobody met the reserve once again. I emailed the seller and asked what he would sell the car for - he says $78k, which I thought was very good. Before I had time to come check out the car, he reposts the auction. I ask if he would take $75k for the car - he responds that he'll take $80k to end the auction now. We send several emails back and forth and agree that if I were to be the high bidder, he would agree to me doing a PPI on the car before going through with the deal. If anything major was found, the deal would not go through.

I wait until the last 5 seconds of the auction and put in a bid for $75k - it *just* meets the reserve. I fly up to Dallas (from Austin) the next day to meet James at Norwoods to go over the PPI while he's doing it. The PPI goes well (very well) and I am more impressed with the car than I thought I would be. I met several FerrariChat.com members at Norwoods while I was there - icing on the cake :-)

After some paperwork, I drove the car home to Austin - time literally seemed to go 2x faster than normal on the way back, it was great!

I was at Norwoods when Rudy was having the PPI done on this car. Pictures do it no justice. It really appears to be a pampered, unmolested example. James looked at it closely. Congrats Rudy, well done!
The car looks beautiful.
Standby for the narrative writeup on my trip to pick up my new 348TT.

Deals are to be had.

Rudy,
I'm visiting Dallas for the weekend...Looks like I missed out on seeing your car yesterday at Norwoods/Humperdink's. I heard from Rob, though, who said your car looks great! Judging by the great shots on your site, I'd say so too!

And for 75k... a steal indeed. Hmmm... got me dreaming for a F355 already. :-)

rudy - that was definitely an amazing deal. does the car have 28K miles or 8K miles?

can you tell us more about the circumstances?

i was talking to a buddy a month or so ago who's a car dealer and he said they were wholesaling these things out in the 80s, so you seemed to do stellarly.

doody.

Congratulations Rudy! Very nice car.

You may want to consider joining the local FCA club, Dave (Maranelloman) is the local chapter president. We get together every 4th Saturday of the month for breakfast.

I'm in NW Austin. Where are you?

Great cars especially with this colour combo!
The 355 seems to be a good deal and value for money factor has definitely risen lately...
Enjoy your cars...

Matt - thanks, I'd love to go out to the track sometime...perhaps in my NSX first :-), at least until I get the hang of it. I don't mind divulging the price for educational purposes...

James noticed a few minor issues with the car - a few bulbs were out, some rock chips here and there, etc. The interior leather was in pristine condition, 30k service was just done (has 28k miles) and all mechanicals checked out. That being said, I paid $75k for the car - is it just me, or is that not a steal? I think the owner had been trying to sell it for some time, though...if you're in the market to buy, now does seem to be the time!

Congrats Rudy! Nice ride!

Rudy, here at FerrariChat, if you have been reading for a while, there is a large divergence on what people 'think' certain cars are worth. Those who have not bought one, tend to think they are worth less than those who have actually paid for one.

Having said that, if it's not too rude, can I ask what you paid for your car?

Just for guideline sake....the crowd which feels the cars are getting slammed in price, say they should be selling for the mid 70's.

People who have actually bought them have paid in the low 90's and up.

This does not count all the people who have friends whose friends know someone whose father-in-law's cousin bought one for 78k.

Your info will help when it comes to people KNOWING what these cars ACTUALLY trade for.

Again, congrats on your beautiful car.

PS When you are ready to really extract the performance abilities that the engineers put into that car, give me a ring, and we can head out to the track!

Hey guys - I'm the proud new owner of a '98 355 berlinetta "Rosso Barchetta" F1. Thanks to everyone who helped me with the purchase - especially those who recommended James at Norwoods. If anybody needs to have a PPI done - James is the guy to do it! Thanks James!

Anyhow, here are some pictures taken at the lot:
