I was talking to someone at Cauley Ferrari one day, and he told me that a Ferrari theft is quite rare. Too easy to spot driving around in, and VERY little if no interest in black market parts from the car. It seems (and rightly so) that people that own Ferraris want genuine parts and are not interested in "black market" parts. Vandalism on the other hand would be more likely.... |

Bentley = VW RR = BMW BMW and VW fought over RR and B, BMW was already doing the engineering for RR and B. VW finally won by grossly overpaying and aquired both RR and B, but forgot one thing. The name RR was owned by another entity, so BMW bought the name for only $67M. They finally settled, Bentley kept the BMW engines in the VW owned cars until 2003 and BMW is now coming out with their first RR. So, the brands are now totally separate again |

Bentley has been part of Rolls Royce for many years (since '50s (?)), infact with many cars (think '70s) the only difference is the radiator grille thingy. This may not be the case anymore, ie. they may have engine differences, etc. Just like Jaguar and Damiler (spelling ?) are the same car. The British love killing off or consuming makes to become a trim feature on a fancy model. I think Bentley is probably the only brand to keep its proud image. Pete |

Bentley is part of Rolls Royce? I always thought they were competing companies? Although some of their cars are pretty similar...

Actually as Rolls Royce is owned by BMW now, and Bently is part of Rolls Royce, I think DES's German reference is accurate . Infact the latest current Rolls Royce has the BMW V12 engine ... Stick to your guns DES Pete |

Yes, that's what I meant with the comment: "Modern Ferraris with the miracle of fuel injection I see no problems in starting and driving off."

Ok, fellas, let me apologize; i know Bentleys aren't German, i was just making a joke- before Bentley took over the dealership, the lot was full of Ferraris, Porsches, the occasional Lotus & even a Diablo- now it's all Bentleys... While they seem like nice cars and i'm sure they'll give most other cars a run for their money, i'm just not into them... i have nothing against them or the people who make them, they just took the place of all the beautiful Ferraris i used to be able to visit... Didn't mean to offend anyone, sorry... Peter, i see what you're saying, but a 355 seems pretty new- couldn't you just start one of those right up and go...? |

DES-- Why some of your comments are often light hearted and fun, your steping over board with the nazi comments. Bentleys are unbelivable cars, and the new Arnage T would give a 348 a run for its money. I do know this first hand. Having had the chance to drive pretty much any exotic car in the world, sans a Bugati, McLaren, an Enzo, I can attest to the fun that Ferrari's are and Bentleys as well. And BTW...Parking them on the street is common practice out here. Regards.. Red |

Des, I'd like to see the crook that'll try to start my carb'd 308. I even have trouble sometimes if I rush it and not pay attention! Old V-12's are even more particular about starting procedure. Within a few minutes, I'm sure they'll just give up, rip off a few emblems (the nose badge would be first to go) and run off into the night. Modern Ferraris with the miracle of fuel injection I see no problems in starting and driving off. The cars however are too much of an attention-getter, so less like to be stolen. If they are, purely for joy-riding. Again, badges/emblems would be the easiest and first to go. P.S. what's with the nazi-Bentley comments? |

As you should very well be safe to assume, i recently visited Bentley of Long Island, in the still of the night, to witness the beauty and grace made still by gated and windowed Ferraris... The yellow 360 coupe was still on the showroom floor, between some Bentley things and is looking stunning as ever... The Ferrari & Porsche population seems to be dissipating as the nazi Bentleys forward march their fascist ways into the lot. However, outside of the gate, in the front lot where i pulled in, just sitting there, was a blue Ferrari F355 spider... i was able to walk 360 degrees around the car, marveling at it's beauty and thought: "who leaves such an exotic automobile in the public-accessable lot, throughout the night (& weekend), at such a risk of the car being tampered with, or worse- stolen. My question is this: Are Ferraris as easy to steal as any other car...? No, i'm not planning on 'liberating' the car, i'm just curious as to where the apparent confidence comes from, from the dealership that has no problem with leaving a Ferrari in the parking lot...? They've left others in the front lot, as well, so this is not the first time, nor does it seem to be an out-of-the-ordinary practice for them... Are Ferraris stock-equipped with something to prevent theft, moreso than, let's say, a Camry...? On a side note, to all the F355 owners: i really had a good chance at admiring this car from all angles and must say that i have a new appreciation for it- it is truly a wonderful-looking automobile. |
