OK. Problem was cracked power steering hose and the oil was draining, slowly. My advice if you hit a big bump, have your car checked out just in case. 355s are very sensitive little horses!

Unfortunately IM are the only authorised service agent in HK. I too liked the 348, but the Lotus Esprit SE I had was much better. Again, no power steering but loads of feel and VERY fast. I would say even faster than the 355 around HK.

What 348 do you have? I heard that only the Spider and GTB were any good. The others had loads of problems.

The 348 is a great car. I used to have a mid 80s 911 out here and that was a real nightmare to drive in HK. The 348 is actually very easy drive. I have also drove a couple of 355 before buying the 348. I truely believe that a sports car should be all manual; nothing power assisted; thus, I chose the 348.

Is your car still being serviced by italian motors?

Hi fellow HK'ers,

Hope you get your car fixed Tony, and at reasonable cost ;) Have to get our cats sorted otherwise we'll have to second morgtage the car!

Darius, How's the 384? I test drove one before getting the 355, great car! Know what you mean about the roads here, our 95' 355 is a fair bit harder than Tonys and it's a nightmare at times.

Still enjoying the car ;)

Hi Tony:

I also live in Hong Kong with a 348ts. The roads here are so bad. It's really quite ridiculous. Are you part of the Ferrari Owners Club here?

I would sue but I live in Hong Kong and these things happen here. Luckily, the car is under warranty to it'll be fixed for nothing. I'm now confident it's the power steering because the car is starting to track to one side.

I'll keep you posted.

YIIEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKK...a lawyer....

just kidding!

I agree with you. Unfortunately your porofession is required. As with most professions, some bad aples spoil the pie. It is the Mc Donalds suits that give the legal profession a bad name.

Sorry if I offended you. No harm meant!

The city or county should be sued. Most governmental entities are special statutes (laws) that provide for special rules for suing them. Road maintenance is an area where you have to be able to show that they had notice of the specific defect which caused your damage. In this instance, because there was construction at the area where your car was damaged, proving that the entity knew the road was defective should be no problem. If there were construction people around, then they would be the individuals charged with the duty of informing the governmental entity.

However, if the repairs were intentional, the government had a duty to put a sign or some other notification to you that the pavement was not right and that you should use care when transiting that area. If there was such a notice, you probably have little recourse.

As to the various comments about lawyers, everyone seems to say that until it is them who has been hurt, then their lawyer is the only exception to the rule. The bottom line is that our society sets forth rules of conduct, and when those are violated, rather than take matters into our own hands, we hire lawyers. The frequencey or lack thereof of suits is a direct reflection of our society's refusal to deal with each other honestly. You have may guessed that I'm a lawyer, and damned proud of it.

But Magoo,
should the threat of court keep us away from pressing the right thing?

Martin, I agree with you, but it's like the guy who hit you. It depends who you deal with and that includes the city or town you're dealing with. Some tell you to contact their attorney. That means good luck after we go to court.

Today it appears the roads are only maintained for cars like Expedition and Hummers. We have to stop that. This is unacceptable.

Think about suing the City. 4-5 inches, gimme a break, whatfor are we paying these taxes, to have our cars screwed up?
The are not taking care of the roads, let them face the music. It is like you trip and fall on private property becasue the owner neglected it and did not fix things. You can sue.

I hate lawyers and hate that everybody sues everybody, but this is a case you should.
A friend of mine had the underbody of his 928 destroyed and did the same thing. He got his whole car fixed at City expense!

Tony,
Is there a chance its a fan blade? Look for a cleaned area on a metal surface. I'm sure you'll breathe a sigh of relief once the problem is isolated and corrected.
Best of luck.

Not sure, will have to check. Going to take the car in for a checkup but it's good to have an idea what the problem may be before hand.

The power steering pump is on top of the engine, near your firewall. The power steering lines DO go all the way up front to the steering rack and they hang down very low under the car. It is possible that you have cut a hole in one. How is your power steering fluid level?

I have a 97 355F1 and a couple of weeks ago, I hit a HUGE dip in the road where construction had made the road sink 4-5 inches. I was travelling about 40 MPH and the noise when I hit was very loud. CD skipped etc.

Now, when I turn a corner fairly hard I hear a whirring/grinding noise. There does not appear to be any change in the reactions of the car but the noise is obviously warning me something is wrong.

Could this be the diff or maybe the powersteering mechanism? I'm not actually sure where the PS motor is but assume it's in the front. The noise seems to come from the rear which is why I think it might be the diff.

Any thoughts?
