sean, i believe thats a picture of one of the 'lightened' and stroked twr versions. they tore out all the luxo bs and cranked up the turbos and made it into a car actually capable (and safe) to run to 220mph (its original intention). they ran that car around on top gear i think. there are about 150 of these, unpainted, and waiting for new owners, somewhere in a warehouse in the uk..........these days $150k would get you one.

I love the XJ220. Aside from the baby blue color, I think it looks stunning here:

Both are nice cars, but not only was the XJ220 suppose to have a V12, it was also suppose to have Lambo style doors that opened upwards..
I would never spend that kind of money for a Twin turbo V6. $700,000 was out of order...$175,000 would have still had buyers keep there orders in..

Visually, I like them both. Always thought the Vector was a high-tech supercar that would forever be out of my reach. I've seen several Vector's around town here -- especially back in the mid / late '90s, as they were built here in the later days at an industrial park facility about 15 miles away. This was back when they were somehow tied financially to Lamborghini (?), and the Lamborghini U.S.A. headquarters was based here in Jacksonville for several years. I followed the history rather closely on the Vector during that time, before it all came crashing down. Beyond that, I've never had the opportunity to actually ride in either a Vector or an XJ220. Last I checked, there were a couple of Vectors for sale at http://www.exoticcarworld.com/sales.htm

I have seen XJ220s sell from $175K. Personally I haven't been looking but I am drawn to it styling.

i think the form is pretty nice. have seen a couple on the street though and the problem is they are pretty big, as in can't fit anywhere ! best driven as they were intended - on the autobahn.
funnily enough, i sat next to a racing driver/journo the other night at a dinner/presntation about the vanquish, and he reckons the xj15r is one of the best race cars of all time. he drives one for the owner quite a bit. i asked about all the articles i read about that cars high speed instability etc. his answer was it was down to fiddling with the suspension - he set the rear wishbones horizontal in the back, which he claims totally straightens out the grip etc. he went on and on about the details, but not being mechanically minded i forgot most of it, but it did sound like if ever one of these roadgoing cars comes your way at a cheap number (currently around $120k according to him), that its a great car to add to the collection.
his opinion of the xj220 was poor, too much of a poser without a lot of useful grunt at the right revs, hard to handle etc.

Jag deciding to put in a 6 rather than 12 was what killed the enthusiasm for the car. It pi@@ed a lot of prospective buyers off as they had already put the cash down for one when it was planned to be a 12.

As far as the XJ220 being ugly!!!! I'm no great fan of Jags generally but I'd hardly say the XJ220 was ugly, jeez it has a wonderful purposeful form. At a absolute certainty of upsetting F car diehards, IMO the XJ220 is a damn sight better looking than the Enzo

I think the XJ220 is a beautiful car. If I remember correctly Jaguar used a V6 for the engine. The bottom fell out price wise on these cars. This wasn't the best move Jag made though. They were originally priced at $650,000 or $750,000. Many Jag enthusiasts put down substantial deposits on these cars. After a brief period some wanted their deposit back. Not only did Jaguar refuse to give back the deposits. They held the buyers to their contracts. Obviously, these customers filed a lawsuit against Jag. IMHO suing your best customers wasn't a good idea. I think that Jag desperately needed money as this project put them in deep. I think some of them have never been sold and are just sitting there. I would think getting parts could be a huge problem especially, interior, body, etc. I like the car though. It was a very nice design.

The vector was a huge hunk of junk. Andre Agassi's brother called it a firetrap :-) The XJ220 has serious reliability issues from what Ive heard but what do you expect from a british exotic ?

Well, the first time I ever visited the L.A. Auto Show, maybe back in '91/'92 (I was about 10) I remember seeing an XJ220 for the first time. I was hoping I'd get to see one there actually because the pics I had seen had caught my interest. Though very exotic looking and had my attention for a bit, I later was disappointed when I learned of Jag putting in a V6, so thats where my love ended. I have seen a few more at Monterey in '01 and not too long ago on a road near where I live. Needless to say I was blown away I was so surprised. Who really drives an XJ220?
I saw one or two Vectors also at Monterey that year. Look very exotic as well, not quite my type...but the interior did look like a space shuttle or something.
But, I obviously have not driven either, so who knows, maybe there pretty great after all--but I must say they do look pretty cool.

The earlier model Jaguar (I think XJ15R, or something) looked heaps better and had the v12 engine. Not as fast I guess, but I have always thought the XJ220 was/is ugly ... but I have ownly seen pictures.

The Vector is even uglier :-)

Anyone drive, see in person, experience a Jaguar XJ220 or Vector? Or know of anyone who has? What do you think of these cars compared to F-s and Lambos.

I think the XJ220 is one of the best looking exotics out there.
