Andy I think you should get Italian Motors to strip the thing in front of you to prove that it's a non servicable part. After all, they're just another dodgy Hong Kong service agent! I'm still waiting for my replacement vacuum valve!

A 95 will probably not have a post cat 02 sensor so a computer check will do no good. The substrait can rattle inside and still function but will make a noise. I agree to make sure the heat shields are not the cause or something else rattling.

That could be something as simple as a heat shield in the engine compartment that is loose and with the heat and the metal expansion will become more stable one how.

Turn the engine one while cold and listen where it is coming from them hold some of the pieces to see if they are shaking.

Andy,
Had to have both cats replaced on my 97-355 shortly after buying it new. However the only indication was the "check engine" light going on and staying on; no rattle or noise. What does the computer printout indicate? If its the cats it should indicate its the O2 sensor or the cats itself.

My '95 355 rattles quite loud from the engine compartment when cold, sounds like a metalic rattle/resonance. Goes away mostly when warm.

My dealer is saying its the cat, and there's no fix other than to replace it. But he thinks will do no harm to leave it on

But to me it sounds terrible when I turn the car on, quite embarrasing if anyone is around since a ferrari shouldnt sound like a bag of nuts n bolts :(

What do you guys think? Is this a common problem? Should I replace the cats? Are they on there way out? Is there anyway to test this? And how much to replace?

Much appreciate any adice...
rgds
Andy
